Topic: Tricky Temperament Support Thread Posted: 04 August 2008 at 7:41pm |
Anyone else got a gorgeous, head strong kidlet with a will as strong as iron?
Some of the challenges we have at the moment:
Stop = run away, even onto the road. This occurs every single time I try to ge her to walk the 15 steps from the door to the car...she runs as fast as she can down the driveway. Despite being consistent for months it's not improving.
No = scream at the top of your lungs and give the worlds most evil stare.
Careful = lash out and hit
FULL ON!
Please share your testing toddler experiences here so we all know we are not alone.
I never expected to have a child with such a...erm...grumpy and assertive personality. Soooooo the opposite of DH and I!!!!!!

GO AWAY - yelled loud with 'the look'
NO Go Away - followed by a hit and 'the look'
We have got the rund down the path to the road when going to the car - not fun when you got your hands full
throwing food when had enough to eat - when told not to 'NO Go away'.... (do you see a thrend here)
Taking himself to the naughty corner with a smerk on his face
Knowing when he shouldn't do something by looking at you to test you to see what you will do...
Sure theres more
Your certainly not alone!

I think that title leaves this group open to every toddler in the world
We have our good and bad days... latest is smacking Mummy in the face when I'm telling her off! So much for getting down to their level!

Can't help but have a wee giggle at the irony of that Bizzy but that would be very, very annoying.
I'd be tempted to start singing "mary, mary, quite contrary..." over and over.

Jack is in the process of TT at the moment but every time he gets told off he wets his pants. It drives me insane but I can't exactly tell him off for wetting his pants. He thinks doing wees will get him out of time out. Also he now spits at me when I try to tell him off as well. Delightful child.

Can anyone say 'Terrible Two's'?
Just roll with it ...it's going to get worse before it gets better!

I have a sinking feeling my littlest is going to be a member of this thread in a very short time I must admit those stories are quite funny though - of course, only when they're happening to someone else!

Sam hasn't starting saying 'No' to us yet thank goodness but we just get the evil glare constantly.
This is quite often accompanied by throwing herself on the floor and kicking/screaming.
My absolute favourite (NOT) is when you are walking through a public place and try to pick her up and she goes all floppy and starts screaming (she is in her harness so can't escape). I especially love that!

mmm can I join in too, I was a bit worried my boy was not normal.
Sunday was the worst we have ever had it! My thread OH MY GOSH will tell you all about it.
I told him off this morning for getting a stamp and drawing on the wall! He cried and cried, so it was a good chance for me to get him dressed! He was refusing up till then and I was just going with it.
Maybe I should start a countdown till he turns 3?

Oh yeah gotta love those public tantrums...or the ones where you virtually have to cart them out of the mall in a football hold while they arch thier backs and scream blue murder....little Miss is even starting to pull the "lie on the floor and kick and scream" tantrum. Oh joy.

Yup, we're getting the lie on the floor and kick and beat your hands and scream tantrums too. And she can turn in a heartbeat, as soon as she even *thinks* she's not going to get her own way.
As well as squealing at an ear splitting level because she knows she's not allowed to, over and over again - I don't actually think she needs to breathe she can hold that squeal for so long. That's been going on for months too.
Hitting her sister in the face every chance she gets. Hitting and kicking mum and dad.
Pulling open drawers and throwing everything out then running away.
Tipping her entire bowl or plate of food upside down, or spitting her drink all over us. Nice.
She's a lovely, intelligent, wonderful girl but man is she stubborn and headstrong! She turns two in September.
