My child does not sit still for more than 10 seconds! He is constantly moving. Even when hes sick, he won't sit still --- unless his temp gets to about 39! Is that normal?? Please tell me he's not ADHD! Daycare and plunket assure me hes just a very active little boy, but seriously - wouldn't a 12 month old who's sick sit down and watch a kiddie show on TV for 10 mins? I've never encouraged him to watch TV, but we have both been so sick this week, I wished he would sit on the couch with me for more than 2 seconds! He doesn't even have time for cuddles really - they last a couple of seconds max these days! Unless he is in the highchair, he is moving (kicking, throwing, pushing, rolling, chasing, stacking, moving toys etc). Is this a phase that will pass??? Or will he get worse (hes only just started to walk over the last 4 weeks, so still mainly crawling)??

Samantha and I both have colds/flus this week and apart from being tired and grouchy with a constantly running nose you would never know she wasn't well. She is currently running around the living room (which she has already destroyed!) having a great old time enjoying herself.
So the answer is - No, they don't ever sit still

Doesn't sound 'normal' to me because we have the same problem here, and I've seen Ella's little friends sit still so I know they can do it at her age! But yep, it's like that here too. She won't even sit on a chair to eat, we say 'sit on your bottom if you want some' and she'll sit, take a mouthful, and literally bounce straight back up immediately - is constantly up and climbing onto the table, so all mealtimes are spent strapped into her booster chair! Sometimes I really wish she'd cuddle up for a story or want a hug that's more than a second long, but it's the way she's wired and I can't tweak that! In the end I embraced the business and started her at gym for toddlers - it's the highlight of her week. But it sure does mean a lot of running around after them, doesn't it. Blinkin hyper kids!

jack will sit still for ages, always has done. even when he was a bub he'd quite happily sit and play with something for ages and loved watching einstein dvds

charli on the other hand wouldn't sit still for longer than 2mins to watch anything..toy or tv. she has got better now that she's older, but is still very active.

i think some kids are just way more active than others. my friends son has always been like jakob, on the go all day!   must be very tiring for you.

sounds exactly like Ella. At least though when she is sick she does tend to sit still a lot more and we can read books etc then (if she sits still for too long, I know something is wrong with her..).

LOL he sounds pretty normal to me - at 12mos my girls were totally bored by the tv too, it doesn't seem to hold appeal until well after 2yrs from what I've seen.

same here, Jeremy is never still, meal times are a mare, TV will entertain him for about, 1 min on a good day but usually he will stand there and look at it, go do something and everyso often stop for 5 secs to look at tv again then off once more.
My dd was just the same (except when you gave her a puzzle and then she would sit quietly and still does for up to 15 mins) and she didn't work out how to sit still until she was 2. Now she is 3, there are still very few times she will actaully be still unless very tired

Very normal. Alize doesnt even sit to eat and is constantly moving including when he is sleeping. At daycare they are so used to busy toddlers that they have a bar they can stand and eat at lol
