Topic: Stretchmarks Posted: 22 July 2008 at 5:42pm |
im sure this has been asked alot of times before but can you give your opinions again?
Just wondering if bio oil is actually any good? or is there something better (but not too expensive) I dont have them yet but im starting to get bigger and my gp says it looks like im carying abit of fluid so thinks ill get quite big. So id like to start early to maybe prevent them?! (not that im planning to show that area to anyone but still would rather they were not there)

I have heard that the vitamin A in bio oil is considered 'unsafe' as they do not have any solid studies showing if it has any side effects on bubs.
I have been recommended the palmers cocoa butter (which also smells really good) to help prevent them - too early to tell you if it is working though

Also re bio-oil, it is apparently petroleum (sp?) based ... personally I wouldn't use it even if I *wasn't* pregnant.
I've got Rosehip oil which seems to be doing ok ... my biggest problem is remembering to use it! And, considering the belly I'm getting, I'm asking for trouble!!

I've used Palmers (the organic one) right from the start and still got stretchmarks -- but started using rosehip oil two weeks ago on them (as well as the palmers) and I'm pretty sure they've already started fading... (wishful thinking?)

I used Palmers and had an allergic reaction! I am not allergic to anything else and have never had a reaction, but when pregnant things affect you differently... because of this reaction I couldn't use anything and got terrible stretch marks... My mw at the time said to use just olive oil, you could also mix in a bit of Vitimin E oil as well...
Sorry probably not alot of help.

I read up on stretch marks and the biggest thing is to keep your skin moisturised. They say that cocoa butter is the best. Thats what I have been applying liberally and I have no new stretch marks and my older ones all look pretty good to, although they are definatly a bit bigger. Plus make sure you drink lots of water.

I used bio-oil religiously throughout my pregnancy and do not have one single stretchmark. I applied it twice a day to my whole tummy and massaged it in.
I carried quite large too so fully expected to get stretchmarks, my measurements were always 2-3 weeks ahead of my due date and Lauren was borderline macrosomia (which means large baby) and she was, born at 38 weeks and weighing 9lbs
Personally I believe that it is a genetic thing, so if your Mum has them, you will probably get them too, JMHO though!

I used palmers cocoa butter throughout my pregnancy and I don't have any stretchmarks at all. Although apparently it is genetic, but using cocoa butter can't help. Also I only put on about 8kg so that might make a difference I suppose.

I am currently putting a few drops of bio oil in the bath and its working wonders. Skin all smoothe all over so far have spoken to a few others that swear by it too.
Also I was given a bottle and am only half way through so far it seems to last a while, so I know its pricey but it goes quite a way.

This is quite a tricky one really, they say its genetic so if your Mum got them then you will, well my Mum doesnt have any and I do from teen years. So used my bio oil every day and the teen stretchies did extend a little it wasnt too serious and then at 40 weeks plus 3 days I got a bunch of little stretchies at the base of my belly which I wasnt impressed with. My skin is quite elastic, its used to putting on 10kgs and losing it again lol
So I'd go with pure vit E oil and cross your fingers, its all you can really do, there is no fail safe IMO.

I think stretch marks are really just luck of the draw, my mum didnt have any and she didnt do anything to prevent them either.
I am just useing aloe vera based mosturiser every night, no marks yet and im quite bit already.
I have heard good things about the Palmers coco butter lotion but suppose it just depends on your skin.

My mum and sis are covered in stretch marks but I didn't get a single one (much to their disgust...lol). I used cocoa butter but it may have just been good luck.
I used bio oil on my c/s scar but I don't think it made any difference.

I used bio-oil religiously twice a day with my first pregnancy, from the moment I got my BFP. I also used palmers cocoa butter stuff from about week 12, every day. I got horrendous stretch marks!!
I reckon that if you are going to get them, you are going to get them. But it did help with my skin being itchy when I was getting the stretch marks, to keep if moisturised. And I kept using bio oil afterwards and my stretch marks have faded a little, I don't know how much that would have happened anyway but yeah.
