I'm having a few problems with my 2 year old giving her new sister a bit too much 'loving' and am thinking of buying a wooden playpen so I can make the baby safe when she's on the playmat.

Do you think a playpen would keep an active 2 year old out (she's a climber!), if not any other suggestions?

i used to put Taine in the portocot for some "time out". jake would play nicely beside him and I knew Taine would be safe. I was a bit paranoid as Jake sat on him at 6 days old. i thought he'd broken his ribs, but kids are pretty bendy.

My sis used a playpen for #3 but #2 (also a climber) and my daughter managed to get in however it worked in the sense it gave us time to grab the toddlers before they got to the baby so as long as you're close by it should be fine, otherwise I would use a cot or portacot because they have higher sides.

I considered both a playpen and a portacot for Chiara. Decided against the playpen coz we went somewhere where they had one and the gremlins took great delight in pushing it around the room, no way would it keep them out.

I might try the portacot when Chiara starts being awake for longer but my fear with that is that they will just stand on the side and heave things in at her

thanks.. I have a portacot but was thinking something bigger because at 12 weeks she now likes to play on the playmat gym thing and also sit in the bouncer etc, portacot is too small...
