I know that some women end up on crutches when they get it really bad, a lady at my yoga class was on them. She also couldnt' do all the exercises and would either sit some out or the instructor modified them for her. I also think that the physio can give you a belt to wear (or I might be getting confused with sciatic pain).
I would lay of the exercise until you see the physio and see what they say is ok to do.

I have had Syphis Pubis problems all through this pregnancy. Did not have it with either of the others and I was very active doing loads of exercise and walking with both of them.... So my suggestion would be to keep at the walking as it will hopefully prevent it from getting worse altho who knows!.The belt they gave me did help however it was not good for me as just continued to make me need to go to the loo all the time which is then hard to get up with the pain..off the loo all day and night long.
The physio gave different exercises but they were quite painful..am now on pain killers mostly and relying on the thought that when he is out this will all be gone.

I so sympathise with you tho it is hideous pain.

I used the belt last time and it helpped a bit but walking was really difficult. My midwife has suggested swimming instead of walking to help keep things together this time around. They sometimes have a pregnancy arobics(sp?) class at the pools which is meant to be really going, also aqua jogging.
Mines starting to get sore already so I'm going to have to look into doing some of this and if I do get around to it I'll let you know how it goes.
I'm just crossing my fingers that it won't get really bad for at least another 5 and half months!!

Just reading about split symphasis developing in pregnancy. I developed a split symphasis for the first time ever in my 4th pregnancy in 1992, at 34 weeks. he was 9lb 15 1/2 ozs caesarian birth, and they said my immobility contributed to his size. I could only walk backwards, if at all and had 3 other children under 8yrs. Although I was not ill, I could not look after anyone, even myself and the unborn baby. Back then, the private hospital bill was $8,000 for the 6 1/2 weeks in hospital. Every time they tried to take me home in a wheelchair before the birth, my bloodpressure shot up, so the doctors decided just to leave me in hospital. Fortunatly we lived next door to my parents and my mother helped my husband care for the older children and send 2 to school and one to kindy day care. After I came home with the new baby, my mother-in-law came to stay for a month.

Even now almost 19 years later, I can still have the pricking pain if I inadvertantly swivle my body eg go ten pin bowling, climb on a chair to change a light bulb. The split symphasis did heal, but it is never far away. Rest is essential, and usually the pain is gone the next day.

My advice re exercise with this condition before the birth is - don't. It is too delicate a condition to undertake anything involving the hips and pelvis. Do the exercise after the baby is born, and even then be careful. Children and babies need functional mothers, not ones that can't walk forwards or tend to their needs.

I excercised a lot during my pregnancy and didnt get PSD until the last few months. I would wait until you see the physio before doing anything too active. My midwife suggested swimming also.
