Topic: Language Skills - so clever!! Posted: 02 December 2007 at 8:23pm |
In the past I've posted lots of worried posts about Elle so I thought I'd post a good one.
She is 15mths and I'm astounded by her language ability! Yesterday we were reading and she selected a book, sat herself down and proceded to turn the pages. On the first page she saw a cat, so said "cat". On the second page she saw a dog, so said "dog, woof woof". On the third page she saw a bird and said "duck, wuak wuak". On the forth page she saw a butterfly so said "bubberfly". Next page was a mouse and she said "whats that?". Last page was a car and she said "car". She essentially read the book to herself!
She's able to say "no, don't do that" which is essentially a 4 word sentence and her new favourite saying is "up daisy" [i.e. whoopsy daisy].
I just can't get over how amazing toddlers are! Elle's vocab is now well over 20 words, probably closer to 30 and her understanding is amazing. They learn so much so quickly! This is the BEST age!

Did you get her the flash cards from the book night? Caitlin is trawling through those, naming them or making the sound they make.
I also lay about 5 out for her and say "show mummy the duck" and she'll pick it up without hesitation!
Yay for our clever girls
