Oh friday, my mum gave Rhiannon meringue mouse/snowman thingy, oh my god never ever again EVER, i have had nothing but tantrum after tantrum since friday, Rhiannon has hardly slept, since friday, and today, i never want repeat it again, she is so so so over tired that we have just had constant screaming and crying since 3pm, have had to give in and give her a bath, some pamol (for teething) and let her go to sleep, she will either sleep till 6am, or i will be up early in the morning with her.

I am never ever going to let her have one of those again...i am so glad this weekend is almost over.

Oh and it doesnt help that mummy has her period so had a shorter fuse than normal, and not as much patience, I feel so guilty for yelling at her, when i know tis not her fault.

its a thing you buy from bakeries, and they come as either snowman, mices or other shapes, they are white, with different parts tinged with food colouring.

Pure sugar, and extremely sweet, i had 1 bite and couldnt eat it, i really shouldnt have let her have it, but she looked so cute eating it, but i now know for the future.

Oh and they are far far sweeter than a pav too

Amazing! So interesting to hear such a clear story about the effects of food colouring / sugar.

Hope you all get a good sleep tonight...has she stayed asleep?

Heh heh...sounds cute actually BellaBabysMum...I don't think we've ever had a sugar high (well, nothing that is discernable from the normal high level of toddler activity!).

funny yah, we had the sugar rush on the friday, and we think since then a sugar low, but she slept from 5pm-7am and woke up smiling, sparkling eyes and my happy little girl, of course it also helps that mummy got to sleep as well, (wont say it was good sleep but it was some sleep at least).

So today is just going to be a quiet day for mummy and Rhiannon, just reading and playing, maybe doing some crafts

I find it weird how some kids get sugar/colouring highs. Charlotte is fine with absolutely anything, she never seems to get a rush and she eats anything and everything!

I remember the first time we gave Charlotte a sweet- she was 18 months and she litterally ran around and around the room squealing whilst waving her arms over her head for about half an hour. It was insane. She is still really affected by sugar- even orange juice can make her hyper.

I think if kids don't get much sugar in thier diets then when they do have a big hit it tends to have a real strong effect. My SILs kids eat alot of sugar on a daily basis and it has little to no effect on them.

Char probably has some sugar every day in the form of say a muesli bar and yoghurt in her lunchbox but on average, she doesn't have that much sugar from lollies or chocolate, maybe say the equivalent of a freddo frog once a week. I don't consider it that much at all!

I was always of the opinion that if you give them stuff in small amounts and don't deny anything then it should be fine. I have also found people saying to their kids "no, you can't have that because you will get all hyper" Isn't that basically setting them up to be hyper by instilling it in their brain that it will make them crazy?

Yeah we dont deny rhiannon having sweets and chocolate, she just doesnt get much, but this thing was pure sugar and thats the difference i think...on the upside, she hasnt touched anything sweet since last week, she just doesnt want it

Elle has muesli bars and yoghurts (normal ones, not kids ones) every day and the odd bikkie and we've never noticed any effects but sweets etc might be different...I've never given her a sweet to find out LOL.

Jess - can you remember if the kids went hyper on the mice I got from the Windmill that day? They certainly munched them down but I don't remember anything out of the ordinary?

I know what you mean Kazzle about them being pure sugar. Great once is a while as a treat (like once a year) but certainly not on a regular basis. I did buy Char one of the icecream cones with marshmello in it - thats probably a better option for your Mum to get as a treat!

The only time Isla has been hyper on sugar was from having to drink paedialyte at the hospital to rehydrate her when she had gastro. Now that stuff is pure liquid sugar! It even takes like V! She was singing and jumping around in her carseat on the way home from hospital at midnight
