Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
We kinda thought we would be told by specialist that DH had slow, low or lazy sperm, not NONE!!!!
DH is booked for a biopsy next week to see if any can be find, if so they will freeze and I guess then will see if can go on wait list for Pub funded tx

Thanks we are both gutted, it wasnt what we thought we might hear... We were in two minds whether to have the biospy or not, at $1800 its not cheap and we could still have the same outcome, but at least we will know and if they do find something then maybe theres a slim chance.   Worried about how long the waiting list is for public treatment if we are even eligible as I am already 33yr6mo.
All my family and friends are all ok, have children so no-one to discuss with.. we have both had some sleepless nights lately

The cut off is based on the woman's age, and it's 40 topcat, so you've got a way to go yet.

I think it's worth it to do the biopsy because even if there are a couple in there, you can move ahead with IVF - what they do is suck the little wrigglers out of the testes (or whereever they are I suppose) with a needle, and do ICSI from there.

I am so sorry for the bad news We're thinking of you, and keeping things crossed for you.

Depending on where you are in NZ, I think Auckland's is the longest waiting list at about 1 year. Tauranga is the best from what I gather - with no waiting list at all!!

Thanks for all the hugs guys and thanks too Ginger, we didnt think to ask many questions as we both looked and felt like we had been hit by a train when he broke the news.   Biopsy is on Wednesday, results some time after that, guess we will make an appt then and discuss the findings.
Crazy about the waiting list aye, we are in Auckland, maybe Tauranga should take some of the overflow, sure there are plenty of people who would travel down for it.
Anyway will keep you posted with how we get along.

Dh wasnt sure if he even wanted to consider IVF, but at least having this done, leaves that option open, but now has really come around to the idea. We are keen to do much past about 35-36yrs for me though, so thats where my cooment about my current age versus waiting list comes from

Big hugs to you Topcat

I also think its worth doing the biopsy. Sure its $1800 but its worth it - otherwise you will never know if there are any in there. And think if there are a couple in there that you could freeze, you could have a chance at IVF/ICSI.

Good luck to you both hun

Yes, we had the biopsy done today, a bit more to it than we thought with two decent incisions (not just a needle) and they took out some tissue samples to test for swimmers as well as rule out any pathology, poor DH is sore and sorry but will hopefully find out more tomorrow

Oh that is so not fair I know you must both be devastated. I just found out that the waiting list at Fert Ass in Auckland is 18 months and its growing expenetionally (is that spelt right!) and that the wait is 12 Months at Fertility Plus so we are deciding whether to change clinics.

Thanks guys, went in for results of biopsy today and although we had already heard it was just as hard as it was last week, now it seems so final. DH has rarish condition that means he cannot produce sperm at all so thats it for us.   FA gace us three options, have no kids, adopt or I have a baby through donor sperm. They said when we have had a chance to basically recover from the news come and have some counselling but at this stage it looks like no kids, as donor sperm for me is just a no go area.

Hi topcat I'm really sorry but in some ways I'm glad you have found out and not kept on hoping for 10 years etc. I have an elderly friend whose DH had no sperm count, they adopted 2 children and now have grandchildren. It must be a really hard situation and decisions that now face you, I wish you all the best in that.

No biggie suprise there, you certainly arent the only one who have made such a suggestion. Problem for us is its still too soon to think about anything past the "news" - its almost like losing someone, although we never even got that close to something happening. DH has three older brothers, all of whom have children, so theres no hassle with the family line so to speak, and I guess thats why it also seems so unfair, why him?? The other issue for us is that we are both quite old fashioned and the idea of a child that is not my husbands just doesnt cut it...
Head not so high at the moment but thanks for the hugs
