Topic: Watermelon ankles:( Posted: 29 October 2005 at 10:51pm |
I have had occasional swollen feet after a long day of just being a mum but would always go back to normal by the next day. Yesterday however I was standing up for about 30mins doing a few dishes etc and my feet and ankles blew up like a pair of small watermelons they were so uncomfortable I thought I better put my feet up and they went down a little by this morning after almost constantly having my feet up. I have been trying to keep my feet up as much as possible today but they are still very swollen. My blood pressure was a little high when it was last checked on thursday so should I be worried and bother my midwife on the weekend? or is this normal for late pregnancy and I should just wait until my appointment on monday? I seem to be having a really paranoid week so I though I'd see what you all think rather than jumping to conclusions.

I'd ring the hosp and speak to staff midwife and see what they say. I had same prob, and they like to be kept informed, you may need to go in and pee on a stick?

I did the pee on a stick thing on thursday and it was normal. I didn't no it was possible to just ring a hospital staff midwife, I mite try that tomorrow if the swelling doesn't go down by morning. Even if it's just for a piece of mind. I'd just hate for something to go wrong this late in the pregnancy. We really hope we have bubs soon too, with swollen feet and a seperated pelvis I'm practically unable to do anything anymore more and to tell you the truth I never realised how annoying and frustrating it is to have to sit around and do nothing but wait. I terrified that I'll end up going overdue

Hi HelenElla, ring your midwife because she will want to know. I had low blood pressure throughout my pregnancy and then the day before I had Alex my feet swelled up & they found my blood pressure had shot through the roof and I had to be induced because of pre-eclampsia. I don't want to worry you but your midwife will probably want to just check you over just in case. Don't wory about bugging her, that what she is there for. Best of luck!!

yep, definately check it out with your midwife- doesn't matter what the urine stick said on thursday - things can change pretty quickly. Give her a ring - it's what she is paid for - a quick check will not ruin her weekend or yours.. it could be important.
I know how you feel - i had the same thing with my pelvis - and it is jsut so very horrible - i had to crawl off the bed backwards towards the end of pregnancy - and even then, i had to support myself on the dresser to stand up - knowing i would feel it all click back together again.. icky when i had to get up for the loo so often. i hope you have baby soon and it gets better for you - nothing like those "discomforts" of pregnancy.. lol.. must've been a man who called them that first.

I had the same as toniellis - without even knowing it until I went to the midwife!!
It could just be end of pregnancy swelling if its just ankles but the day I had Arna my whole body was like a puffa fish!!
Ring M/F to make sure - All the best!!

I called my midwife yesterday because my feet and ankles were so much worse as well as bad headaches and dizzyness which was starting to really worry me. She called round and I did the pee on a stick thing and it was fine, my blood pressure was still up but bubs was happy so she just told me to keep my feet up and then I saw her again this morning. Today my blood pressure has gone down a bit which is a relief and she thinks the other symptoms are simply from lack of sleep and carrying round so much weight. So she says I should do nothing for the rest of the pregnancy to avoid my blood pressure rising again. My thoughts were it would just be best if she did a sweep or something to help bring on labour instead! But she wouldn't since bubs is happy and I'm not due for another two days. Although I'm not really sure how two days makes any difference since my first scan said I was due today, my 2nd said I'm due on wednesday and my most recent said I'm due tomorrow. But my dates worked out that on due on wednesday so I guess it's just a matter of two against one! Oh there was one other scan that said I'm due on the 5th but I'm just going to ignore that one

Ok so last night was the worst! I started to get contractions at about 8pm and they were every 20mins but not very strong, as the night when on they got stronger and by 3am they were between 4 and 5 mins apart an getting even stronger. I was able to sleep between them and I had taken panadol so I could hopefully sleep through them but they were too strong, anyway I was starting to get excited as they were so frequent and strong however but 645am they slowed down and now they have completely stopped I'm sooo disappointed! I wish bubs would hurry up!
