I had a medically managed miscarriage on 23/08, I was 12 weeks but baby had died at about 10 weeks.
I bled for 3 weeks quite heavily then stopped for about 5 days.
DH and I BD and then bleeding started back up again that night.
For the last week I have been bleeding very heavily sorry if TMI but soaking through a pad every 2 hours.
I went to see my doctor and she prescribed antibiotics which i think have made things worse. Has anyone had this happen to them? I am so over this and ready to move on but I cant when im still bleeding. Should they have examined me or given me a scan? Is it normal to still be bleeding?

Yes, i think that you should be given a scan to check for retained products. I had a medically managed miscarriage two years ago and I had a follow up scan a week to check that there was nothing left.

I know everyone is different, but It doesn't sound right that you are bleeding so heavily now. I bled for about a month I think, but nothing heavy after the first week.

Definitely go back to the doctor and ask for a scan. I had the same as you and my midwife kept telling me that the bleeding was normal. I finally had enough and went to my doctor who referred me for an ultrasound. I had the tiniest amount of retained product but it was enough to cause all of that. I also had a blood test and HCG came back at zero so don't just rely on a blood test.
My bleeding went on for nearly three months (on and off) and I am so angry at myself for not listening to my husband and going to the doctor sooner. I kept thinking the midwife must be right.

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss Laurz, and I agree with how hard it is to move on when your body doesn't seem to have done so.

I agree with what the others say, definitely ask for a scan. Even if there is the tiniest amount of retained product then the bleeding can just keep going. If there is any tissue there, your body will keep sending blood to the area and you could just keep bleeding, without it effectively clearing the uterus. There's also the concern that your iron levels could fall quite low with so much bloodloss.

I know with my last miscarriage, even though the blood loss was huge (it blew my mind how much blood you can lose without passing out or dying) the Drs and nurses told me they don't like to intervene unless absolutely necessary.
With my first miscarriage I chose to do it naturally, which ended up taking months (I was also 12 weeks) but I was monitored quite closely and had ultrasounds to ensure my uterus was clearing, and I took herbs which were effective in helping it to do so.

I hope it sorts out soon for you so you can move on, and have a healthy pregnancy next time

Definitely get a scan, my midwife keep asking me if bleeding was tapering off & if not, did I want a scan, phone up your midwife or your Dr tomorrow & demand one.

Sorry to hear that Laurz, it's very devestating. I'll tell you my expereience with my mmc in June this year.

I was 9 weeks along when I went to the hospital to get medical help with my mmc, and I was bleeding heavy for about a week then light bleeding for another week. After it stopped my dh and I also bd and then started bleeding the next day for about 2 days from memory and then it stopped. After that I went back to the hospital for a scan and they said everything was clear and perfect. I was still spotting brown at that stage and they said it was nothing to be worried about.

After about a week my dh and i bd again and then the following day I started to bleed again and it was so frustrating. This lasted for about 2 weeks. While I was still lightly bleeding, I got my af in full force, and I knew it was as I had my normal symptoms.

My af normally lasts 7 days and it ended exactly 7 days later and I ovulated exactly on CD18 which is spot on for me.

I know how frustrating it can be, but I would deff be getting a second scan.

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and advice.
I rang the doctor today about a scan but she said to wait and see what happens and if I havent stopped bleeding by friday she will sort me out for a scan. Strangely enough bleeding has eased off a lot today. Is it possible it was AF as well as left over blood? I might have to start charting and see what happens:)
