Hi there,

Any ideas to fix my toddlers early waking????
He is not cold, hungry, we have a black out blind, no noise around but just lately he has been waking between 5 and 5.30. this morning he woke at 4.30. As long as he's not crying i don't go into his room until 6, so he doesn't think its ok to get up. he's wide awake talking and shouting but not crying. he will not go back to sleep. he doesn't have his nap until 1 1.30.

Im pregnant again and don't sleep well as it is. Any ideas????

Thank you

I don't know if this will be any help to you, but our 14mo sometimes does the same, and it gets earlier each day until I nip it in the bud. We have a pretty strict 7am rule in our house, as long as she is safe & not screaming her head off completely, we do not go into her room until 7am. I leave books and toys in her cot to play with (I know Plunket says thats a no no, but we use an angelcare so I don't have a problem with it) and she will try it on for a couple of days, then realise that we can hold out longer than her, and gives up and goes back waking/increasing the noise level at 7am. I am pregnant too, and sleep is so valuable at the mo, that I am just strict with this and it seems to work

Thanks for that i usually do that until 6 half 6. I'll try the books and toys so he doesn't shout for me consistently (mummy mummy mummy mum mum and so on ha ha)

Thanks again!!

we are going through the same thing here, have been for months now and I have yet to find a solution. This morning was 4.45am, yesterday was 5.15am and is usually around that time. He is happy to be to be awake and talk to himself until 6am or so, which is fine but we are right next door to can hear him so we are all awake. Im pretty much at my wits end about it now and feel that we have tried everything. I am dreading summer time and when its gets lighter as I don't think that will help. At least with daylight saving when he wakes at 5am it will be 6am!

How old is he? Is there any option of seeing how he goes without the afternoon nap? (probably not what you want to hear when you are pregnant!)

Otherwise if my 20 month old wakes early (before 6:30am) I give her a bottle and 9 times out of 10 she will go back to sleep for an hour or so.

we went through the same thing with our 14 mth old and I did pretty much exactly what squoggs did and now we are getting (hope not to jinx it now) 7 til 7am.  I found I had to do it for about a week or so.

Does he recognise numbers? One Mum I know has a great success with just turned 2 yr old. She got a digital clock and covered up the minutes. He knows he can get up when the number 7 appears. Heaps of toddlers sleep later once they can run around some more too.

Hi, thanks for all the ideas, i have shortened his nap a little which has helped a little but he is so upset when I wake him!! He's still up at 6ish which i can cope with better that 5.15-5.30. unfortunately he doesn't know numbers yet, he will be turning 2 in october, he can count them but I don't think he would recognise them yet although he may surprise me. Kayden is so excited when I go in his room in the morning, he just wants to go straight into his routine of making breakfast.

we got a sleep trainer clock so that he knows when monkey is asleep he has to be in his room, he can play quietly. We take it on holiday and each night he kisses monkey good night. It has made our mornings bearable.
