Topic: Breech question! Help please. Posted: 17 June 2011 at 7:06am |
Hi Ladies,
I have another thread further down but this is a new query altogether - basically my c-section has been all booked because the baby was still breech at my 36w3d specialist appointment but I am trying to find out what happens if I get to the hospital on the morning of my scheduled c-section and a scan shows that the baby has turned? It has been suggested to me that they could want to induce that day to avoid him turning back but no one seems to know for sure. Anyone?

I would say it's up to you? I'm sure the hospital will have their opinions, but I'd suggest you have a chat with your MW about the possibility beforehand and stick with what you want to do.

That might be DHB thing as to the protocols. They cant force an induction so think about what you would prefer, weigh up the pro's/con's etc and talk to your LMC and see what they say.
Are you willing to risk that baby might turn breech again and have a section or risk an induction that may end in a section... Either option has a risk of section. If it were me, I would probably choose an induction (and I am anti induction after my experience) and choose the chance labour then to go home, then find out baby has flipped back again.... but thats just me

I've been wondering the same thing. If my midwife wasn't on holidays I'd ask her! Hopefully the specialist will be be able to tell me on Thursday.

Hmm, I just noticed that baby was concieved via IVF (congratulations!), that may impact the protocols... I have heard they do things a little differently but I am not sure. Hope you have some answers soon!

my DS was breach and then at 36 weeks he went head down and didn't change. I could feel which way he was lying. Usually if the go head down and drop low ready to be born I don't think they are likely to change. I am guessing they would give you all of the options and the risks and let you make the decision.

I suspect that they would give you the option to go home and wait. Frankly, if the baby does turn again, then you can always have another CS, but there is no point going through all that if you don't need to.
When my waters broke at 36 weeks my daughter had been breech and the first thing they did in the middle of the night was check to see if she was still breech, or not (and therefore to be transferred back to my midwife).

My MW said this happened to one of her clients. I think she said they sent her home again ...
