Does your toddler sleep for during the day? DS is going down for a sleep usually between 10.30 and 11am and he will sleep for a couple of hours - am thinking this is too long as he has started waking just after 6am. He is only having this one sleep and still going to be just after 7pm. What does your little one do?

Mines right between 2 naps and one nap, so somedays she will cope with one nap in the middle of the day for 2-3 hours but otherwise has 2x2 hour naps, one at around 9/9:30am and the other at about 2pm. Shes still a little younger though.
Kiara is 3 and Teagan is 2, now we're expecting our long awaited 3rd!

I would say that it isn't too long a nap so much as it is perhaps too early now for him which often causes early wake ups. Try moving it to a bit later and see if that helps with the wake ups. Have a look at this link

Hope that helps.

Mine is 18mo and has 1 nap during the middle of the day for approx 2 hours. Anytime after 11:30 pretty much. She goes to bed at about 8pm and gets up about 6:45am so approx 11 hours overnight. It works for us so i don't mind and not every day is the same.

At 21 months we have one nap at 12.15 for 1 1/2 - 3hours. Will probably soon push it out a bit later. I would say that 10 am is possibily a bit early and that might be why he is waking earlier in the morning. At that age I think naps were starting around 11.45 -12.

Tom is 13 mths and some days has 2 x 1.5/2 hr sleeps and other days has 1 x 2-3 hr sleep (12-2/3). Sleeps 12 hrs overnight (with several waking).

Ella is obviously quite a bit older but as a comparison she sleeps approx 11.5hrs overnight and every 2nd day has a 2hr day sleep.

Thanks Ladies, might try pushing his sleep out a bit. A couple of weeks ago he was going down for a sleep at 11.30 or after lunch but then he started wanting to go earlier - will give it a try and see how we go! Thanks again!

At that age, my son would have a long midday nap, anywhere from 1-3 hours. He would go to bed about 9pm and wake up 8am - 9am. He started cutting out his day sleep not long after turning 2 - I knew it was time, 1) because it became a battle to get him to take a nap and 2) because he started staying up until 11pm every night if he had a day-nap.

Now he's 2.5 and he goes to sleep 7.30-8pm, wakes up around 7.30-8am and only has a day-nap very occasionally, mainly if he fall asleep when we're driving. Basically, I think it's best to let them sleep as much as they want to, unless their habits are starting to cause chaos for you, in which case make small, gradual adjustments and see what works. You could maybe try keeping him up a little later at night if you don't like the early mornings?

At your son's age my DS1 was having one big sleep around the middle of the day - I think he was going down about 11ish? Very rarely we could keep him up till 12. I just gave him a big morning tea and then a late lunch when he woke up We also had a period of about 2 months where he went back to two day sleeps (9-11 then 1-3ish) for a while and then we dropped back down to the one sleep again.

Now at 30 months he is still having a huge day sleep but from 1-3/4pm. Still goes to bed for the night at 6.30/7pm and sleeps another 12-13 hours. He LOVES his sleep (great for me!)

DS is 16 months and has one day nap (and has done since maybe 11 months) we've moved the times around to suit him over the past few months but has been going down at 11am - 12.30/1pm for ages now. Any later and he's over tired, it works well for now As with kiwisj, he gets morning tea before his nap and a later lunch which I have prepared and ready to go for when he wakes up. He goes to bed at 7pm every night and sleeps till around 7am (sometimes 6.30am).

My daughter goes to bed around 1pm, so has her lunch first and usually sleeps for around 2 hours. But can be anywhere from 1-3 hours. She goes down for the night at around 7pm and sleeps till 7-8am.

bopmum, my boy does down for the night around 7-7.30, and wakes about 12hrs later. He goes down for his nap about 5hrs later. So usually around 12.30 and sleeps for around 1 1/4 to 2hrs.
I would try pushing that sleep out till 12ish

At that age DS was having two sleeps - one at 8.30-9am for about an hour and another at 1pm for about two hours. He always went down by 7pm and up around 6am. Since we dropped the morning nap at 18 months he has one nap everyday at 12.30-1pm for 1.5 to 3.5 hours (depending on what else has been going on). He sleeps from 7pm to 7am. The way we pushed him out to one longer nap was to take him to an activity around 10am everyday - that way he was hyped up enough to have a proper lunch at around 11.30am and then go to bed at 12. I then just gradually put him to bed later and later.

Lily is going down to bed at about 9pm (late I know!) and waking about 7am (wakes maybe once or twice overnight but goes back to sleep) and has her morning nap at about 10.30am/11am until about 1pm... Although the past 2 weeks she's been on/off staying with myself and family and they give her 2 naps so some days she has 2 naps! (Hasn't had 2 naps since she was 10 months old).
