You sound about the same as me - 5.5 weeks. Haven't even thought about a midwife yet haha but I guess I'm so overwhelmed by the whole "yay I'm pregnant" thing :P
My husband and I have told both sets of parents as well, but am rather nervous about letting the world know ... just in case. But secretly, would love to scream it from the roof tops!

Hi Guest_42457
Congrats on your pregnancy!
I'm sorry I can't help with a midwife recommendation as I'm in Auckland but I've bumped a thread for you below, hopefully that might help and if you do a search for midwife you may also get some other recommendations. They do fill up SUPER fast so it's best to call asap to get the person you want, perhaps also your GP might be able to recommend someone.
Recommend Your Midwife
A lot of people wait until after the 12 week scan before telling people, but it's completely a personal choice. We told close family and a few friends before 12 weeks and then the rest afterward.
All the very best for the next 8-9 months

Congratulations!!
And good luck for finding the right midwife for you. I can't help you as I'm in Palmy, but with my first I started ringing around at 6 weeks - and a couple of the recommended ones to me were booked already. But I found a great midwife on my third call, so good that we are using her again for this second pregnancy.
As for telling people, it can be good to tell a couple of close friends/family. I don't know if you are working or not but I found that it was handy to have one or two people at work who knew, just makes life easier if you're feeling unwell. Then tell the rest after 12/13 weeks.
I read somewhere the advice "only tell the people you're happy to un-tell".
All the best!

Congratulations! We didn't tell people (other than our parents) till we had our first scan - then we knew everything was looking good and the most dangerous bit was over. The inportant thing is to do what YOU are comfortable with; it's your baby, not your Mum's, so you can feel comfortable making that clear to her

And yes, as far as I know all midwives are free. You might have to pay a little for your scans (I think mine were $35?)

Congrats ladies. Have you checked out the due in December 2011 thread? (If that's when you're due... I'm not sure, too hard to work it out right now. ) There'll be lots of ladies in there due around the same time for you to talk to.

Hey If you go to bay midwifery, which is on Fraser st close to Greerton, they have lists of MW who are free at the time you need, Where abouts are you?
You can also go to Bay births which are in Bethleham, or if you are in Papamoa, Midwives by the beach is on Domain rd. I've posted my MW number (andrea Smith) on the recommend thread.
Congatulations btw

23 is young, but not THAT young - loads of people get pregnant when they're 15/16 so don't worry. And getting pregnant is a blessing, esp considering how many people have troubles now-a-days
I'm 28, and just got married in January, so for us this is planned. Just crossing our fingers all goes well for the next 7 weeks
