    Posted: 30 March 2011 at 5:27pm

I saw my GP today and she said that it is reccomended that all mums take Iodine during pregnancy and breastfeeding for brain development for babies. So as well as Folic acid I am also going to be taking Iodine... Anyone else taking Iodine??

Yep I am this time around, wasn't taking it this time last year with DD though, so I guess it is quite a new thing?

my OB said some prenatal vits already have enough iodine in them, and yes think it's a new thing, good idea is to find out what dose they want you to have and then check if you are already taking enough

Umm - I can't remember and I'm not going to risk waking a sleeping sick baby to go and find out (sorry chick!), but two tablets of the blackmores preg and BF supplement is exactly the recommended dose.

I figure seeing as I'm both pg and bf, I should take the general vitamins as well as just FA and iodine, even though I've got a pretty good diet. So I'm taking 2x blackmores tablets and the folic acid tablet daily.

I havew the new Elevit which has Iodine added to the original tablets. The dose in that according to the box is 250mcg.

If you are taking a normal Multi Vit just check the Vit A levels as that can cause Birth defects, so there shouldnt be any Vit A at all for preggy ladies (apart from in your normal diet).

ETA just found this pdf linky

Kels, as long as it's a pregnancy multivit, rather than a generic one, it's fine. The blackmores one is way cheaper than elevit too

This is a good table that shows the levels of all the vits in various pregnancy MVs, and what the recommended daily intake is...

Oo definitely worth a look into the blackmores esp since it is cheaper for the same thing. I think when I finish the FA at 3mths I will start with then blackmores then

Awesome to see the new Elevat added Iodine too

I agree, any pregnancy vit will do it. I just personally prefer Elevit as its 1 tablet a day not 2 like with some other ones you can get 2 tablets a day may mean you go through them twice as fast.
