    Posted: 27 March 2011 at 4:40pm
Hi, just wondering if I should be worried or not... My baby usually is a very active wee boy, and I would usually have more than 10 movements from him within seconds of waking up, as well as feel him several times throughout the day. But the last few days (starting Friday I think) I haven't felt him much at all
Today he has had the hiccups twice, so I'm assuming he's still alive, but I haven't felt any actual kicks/squirms etc.

My MW booklet says to ring if I don't feel 10 or more movements over a 12hr period, but MW is on leave for another 2wks, so I'm not sure what I should do. Should I ring the hospital and just tell them I haven't felt any proper movements today? Or does the hiccups count as movements? Help!

Rachel - have you tried drinking a glass of cold water or a coke. The coldness and/or sugar is supposed to get them going. Hope that helps.

Id try doing some things to get him moving.

Ice water, peas on tummy, bend down etc etc

If that doesnt work id be ringing the midwives and a back up will see you :)

Other thing to do is lie down on the couch so that you aren't lulling him to sleep with your movement. Hope he wakes up for you

Id give you mw a page, say you havent felt movements then someone should ring you. When i had this happen with DD they gave me a list of things to try and rang back an hour later nothing worked so i just got monitored for 30 min at hospital.

Id ring though, especially since C came early you never know, better to be on the safe side

He woke up a bit while I was eating dinner, still way less than usual movements though so will ring the pager in the morning just to see if it's normal or not. Thanks for all your advice ladies

Have you been extra busy?
This little guy isn't as much of a kicker as DS was, I've got to be in a quite space to feel a kick, and usually it's more squiming than kicking.

With a low-kick rate baby I've talked to my MW a lot about the 10 kicks thing.
She said they were way more interested in a change of behaviour than exact nubmers.
If you think the # of kicks have been significantly reduced, phone sooner rather than later!

My OB told me to sit on the couch hands on bump for 20 min and if i hadnt felt one thing then i should call. My boy was prone to really odd periods of activity where one day he'd be all action and the next nothing so i was ringing up a bit in a panic.

Nah haven't been too busy this weekend, been out to parks etc but relaxing the rest of the time. There is a definate change of behaviour - he has been really active up till about Friday. He's always moved way more than Chelsea ever did...

I am slightly chicken to call because it says in the book to only call at night or weekends if it's urgent. I'm not sure if this counts as urgent because I *have* felt him, just less than usual... I could ring the hospital maternity department to see what they think I should do, or I could wait till the morning and contact a backup mw where my mw works. Definitely want to see someone in the next couple of days though, think he may have changed position too!

I think if it's a real change in activity level I'd call the MW just to be safe... I'd ring now before it gets too late. That's what they're there for so don't feel nervous about ringing!!

I'm back! Baby is just fine, just having a rest apparently it's the weekend for quiet babies, that mw has monitored three women with quiet babies today hehe. But she said don't hesitate to ring again if I get worried again, even if it's just tomorrow. Oh and he is still head down which is a relief - I thought he'd flipped over coz was feeling movements down low and a hard round bump up top. That must be his bum
So relieved now, hopefully he doesn't give me another fright so I can wait till I see my mw in 2.5wks!

Thanks for all your support ladies
