So, I have news, obviously

But I also have a question: I'm quite keen to get a hammock for #2, in the hope that it might help s/he sleep a little better than my lovely DD. But, DD is a climber and I'm wondering whether she'll just knock it over? How sturdy are they? Can the toddler pull down on the hammock and catapult the baby out?

I know I have heaps of time, but DH has found a pretty good deal on one now...

Oh wow, congrats T-Rex !  This next baby won't necessarily have sleeping issues ... they're all different and you deserve a cruisy bubba this time round .

We don't have a hammock, but do have a rule that DS isn't allowed to go into DD's room when she's having a nap.  Her sleep would be interrupted every five seconds otherwise - his current favourite game is to ask "Where's Leah?  Is she asleep?" and then scream as loudly as possible . You could enforce the no visiting rule by putting a snib high on the door if necessary?

Congratulations

Now I haven't had one but i think you can hang them from door frames and you should be able to shorten the chain ( I could be wrong

So you could put it up higher than your DD could reach ?

If you get one on a stand it should be ok as they're fairly stable (or at least our one is). I'd put it up long before baby arrives so DD can get used to it being around and up etc.

I'm also using one. Ollie has all of his sleeps in his room, so JJ doesn't pay much attention.

When JJ first saw Ollie in the hammock he said "he's flying!" but now he just says "that's Ollie's bed". He's not tried to bounce him or anything.

I have had a couple of hammocks, and very, very much recommend Natures Sway over Miyo Baby Hammock.

Congrats on the new addition!

We hung our one for Cooper in our wardrobe door and shut the bedroom door when sleeping so I was planning to do that and hope that I can teach him not to go into the room.   Hadn't thought about him pulling on it though!

Congrats!!

I used a hammock in the lounge for DD for her day sleeps. I loved it and will be doing the same this time around. Occasionally DS (he was 22 months when she was born) would have a look in and it would sway and bounce a little but was never really a problem.
We had it on a stand then, which was stable and easy, this one may just be on a hook on the ceiling, because we are in a different house with I am not sure how I will fit the stand in the lounge.
We have a natures sway hammock, 2 friends have also borrowed it and found it good

Both boys were in a hammock for a time. Jack was about 2y3m when Ben was born and the hammock was always on a stand in the lounge. Jack never tried to pull the hammock down/catapult him. He did like to try and walk around him sometimes and would occasionally bump into him which I tried to keep on top of and stop but they were only little knocks so there wasn't any harm and it probably rocked Ben back to sleep!

Me too - specifically one that sleeps longer than 30 mins at a time during the day (and of course night!).

Congrats - it looks like you're about 10 days behind me!

I have a nature's sway hammock, which was given to us. I never used it, but I hear good things. I did ring them to ask some questions about it, and they were very helpful. I'm sure they would help with your query.

We had a hammock with Teyla - and I ended up having a portacot/playpen in the lounge with the hammock hanging above/in it... because our big clumsy golden retriever liked to walk under the hammock when she was asleep in it!

So... something like that is always an option lol ;-)
that was when she was in the lounge - otherwise she would be in our room with the hammock on the stand and the dog wasn't allowed in there....
