Topic: Worried :( Posted: 19 December 2010 at 10:03am |
Hey everyone
I am 16 weeks pregnant on this coming Tuesday and im really scared that I have lost this baby :( I just dont feel pregnant (even though my nipples are still tender) and my tummy was hard in certain spots and now isnt :( Are these fears normal or does it sound like something is up? Im really worried and know I could not deal with this if something happened to my baby :(

I would suggest you ring your midwife ASAP and ask to see her - she can listen for babys heartbeat and reassure you within minutes. I don't say this because i think something is wrong - because everything you said sounds really normal - but just because i did the exact same thing and nothing will calm you down as much as hearing that heartbeat will.
For me, once the morning sickness eased up and i got well into the second trimester (like you are now) i got really energetic again and aside from the belly didnt feel pregnant at all. I had the same freak outs at least twice - especially because i have an anterior placenta as well and didnt feel movements until 20 odd weeks. Twice i rang my midwife in tears convinced i'd lost the baby and both times she had me in her rooms within half an hour reassuring me with the heartbeat.
Also, if i remember right you were worried about antenatel depression as well - it won't hurt to have these concerns noted by your LMC in case thats an indication of you struggling as well.

I'm 20wks. I've had 3 scans, the latest just 2 days ago. I worry all the time it's going to go bad.
I have felt kicks, but not often and don't think I've felt any today.
I've said to DH before, I couldn't feel less pregnant.
I'm overweight and it's a bit debatable whether I've got a baby bump or not. DH thinks my already big tum has changed shape, but that's about it.
So yes, to worry, very normal.
To lose a baby after 1st trimester is over, with no bleeding, no other indications that anythings wrong, not so normal. (that's what I tell myself, and my way of saying don't worry so much).
bowie's right talk to your LMC, that's what they're there for, don't forget the 'C' means Care. Previously I've also been told that if I'm that worried and out of town I could rock up to the midwives at the hospital, they are also there to care for pregnant mum-to-bes.

I had the same feelings, once MS wore off it was so hard not to worry that something was wrong!
I ended up with gallstones so got a few extra scans in before 20 week one, but I also had an anterior placenta and didn't feel kicks until 22-23 weeks!
If you are worried, then ring your mw and she will be able to help you.

Yeah i would ring too, or even your gp, they can use a doppler and put your mind at ease in seconds. Once you start worrying it's hard to stop. But like everyone else I dont' think it sounds like anything is wrong. The second trimester is normally when you feel best so often means you don't feel pregnant at all.

have you had any bleeding, if you have I would be much more concerned. I also had that freak out. Just tell your midwife what you have told us, they are used to it.

Nope no bleeding at all. A bit of mild cramping and pulling though but I have been told thats normal.
The other day though I had this huge sharp stabbing pain in my upper stomach like the left side of my abdomen where and I freaked out about that. I have no idea what it was but there was no blood or anyting like that and I only lasted for about 10 seconds then went away but it was very painful. I want to talk to her about that also because I think I have been worried since that day. I just dont want anything to be wrong :(

Like the others have said, it all sounds normal. Generally when your panic hits a peak, you will start feeling kicks or something and realise your panic was over nothing.
Also, to put your mind at ease, most of what I have heard is that when people lose a baby, a cruel thing is they STILL feel pregnant, so not feeling pregnant is not a bad sign.
Ring your midwife. I'd start with "I feel silly ringing you but I am really worried". I remember ringing my MW with my first at about 18weeks when I got spotting. I was away at a conference so knewI wouldnt be able to get a scan and I was convinced it was all bad. The back up MW rang me straight away and calmed me down.....he is now 3

Just give her a call and say "Hi, can i make a time to see you today please - i'm worried because ..... or i don't feel good because .... and i would appreciate it if you could check me over and reassure me"
I felt like a total nutjob, and burst into tears when the heartbeat came through but no doubt midwifes see this all the time, mine certainly didnt blink an eye. Yours will be the same!

Thanks so much for the advice ladies! I will cal lthe midwife tomorrow.
What makes matters worse is that my and my SO have called it quits. My heart is broken because I wanted this baby to have a daddy who cared about its mummy and about her/him but its not that way. I wanna talk to the midwife about this too. I dont want any of this to hurt my little baby :(

StephiG - I have worries like this all the time but I think its because its my first pregnancy and my weight is such a big issue for me every little thing worries me. Definatly ring the midwife if it will make you feel better but i've read what the experienced ladies have said and it makes sense.
And you'll be a wonderful mum without your SO, i know it musn't be easy but if it causes you less frustration to be away from that it has to be good for the baby

It sounds like you and I are in the same boat, I'm 14 weeks on Friday, and I'm yet to have a scan, or hear heartbeat.
I worry every other day , feel silly buying clothes, toys, because with my luck (and I've miscarried before) there's going to me no heartbeat when I have my scan (Wednesday.) so you're not the only person feeling this way, I promise you.
I'm no longer with my BabyDaddy, and I thought that was going to ruin everything at the beginning, as I wanted my baby to have mummy and daddy together like I did, and I want everything to be perfect and 'traditional' for him/her.
I've learned over the past few weeks that it is possible to be great friends with an ex, we hang out a lot and shop for baby together, and every few days I get a text telling me I'm going to be a wonderful mummy, or that he's glad we've kept the wee thing.
So it is possible for you and your former significant other to feel like a true family with your new child, it may take some work at the beginning if you are arguing etc, but it is possible, and it's a wonderful feeling when it works.
