Leah, 15 months has been going to music and movement since the start of the year. She loved it at the start, she sat and clapped and giggled and smiled etc. Once she started crawling/waking she started to really dislike it. She sits there with the most unipressed face. She doesnt cry, she just looks mortified over the whole thing. Sometimes she just lies down and almost falls asleep becuase she thinks it is so lame. She also appears to be really shy and awkward when we go there. Often she wont even walk (she has been walking for 2 months).

We tried a new one this week and she was still pretty uinimpressed, not as shy, but she thought it was still pretty lame.

She is really confident and comfortable when we go to playcentre and playdates etc.

Anyone else's kids hate music? She loves me singing to her at home. I am just lost to why she is so unhappy when we go...as I love it!!

We've just started going to a music and movement class, and Campbell kinda enjoys it but doesn't really get into the songs like some of the other kids (but maybe he's still learning them). Maybe now she's more active, she prefers to do more active things? Could just be a phase too.

Sorry I can't be of more help!

Trust this to be your child pekay

I would hazard a guess that perhaps she's a bit stuck in the middle of being a bit old for just bopping along to the music but not being old enough to know the words/movements/dance moves to go with the songs. As long as she's not FREAKING out I would say just keep going and she'll probably start to copy the other kids.

She might be like my boy, thinks that the people who take it are a whole lot bizarre! There is a few songs he gets into now but I've had to incourage him a lot & make him do the movements. I guess take his mind of the leader & on to me & the moves I guess.

I guess I am after reassurance that I am not mean for still taking her. She gets very clingy when I face her to me etc. I am going to perservre...like ya's say, she is not upset, just looks like she thinks we are all idiots!!
And yes...once she knows more words and more confident with moving in different ways, she will hopefully bop and move around to the music!!

Jack's a bit underwhelmed at Mainly Music....he spends a lot of the actual music session doing his own thing unless I am holding him. But he loves loves loves the playtime afterward (and I love the catchup with the other mums) so that's our main incentive for going at the moment. Hopefully he will get his groove on soon, but at the moment, he is probably not too dis-similar to Leah.

have you tried any of the music at home to see how she reacts at home?
Often we find (in our group) that loads of kids will sit for months and months and appear to do nothing but when they get home launch into the whole sing and dance and do the actions to songs we have done that day.
DS (2.5) has been going to music since birth and I would estimate that he has only really just started to get into it (as in do the actions and try and sing and love the movement)) in the last 2 - 3 months. I've just persisted because he didn't seem to "hate" it and it was good for me.
