Topic: Mucous plug vs. discharge Posted: 28 October 2010 at 5:43pm |
With a topic heading like that, there's no point saying TMI ...
How do you tell the difference? Can you? I know the MP sometimes (but not always) has blood in it.

Mine was really thick and jelly like and brown blood streaked.
It also started coming away a week before I finally went into labour.

I only saw mine with Ben's labour. It was like a largish marble in size and relatively round in shape, it was bloody as well. It had a definately shape IYKWIM as opposed to discharge that doesn't. I had mine at 9pm and Ben was born at 2.33am the next morning

Mine looks very similar but as mentioned above it was quite thicker and a bit lumpier or umm not as smooth in texture iygwim!
Mine didn't have any brown colouring or blood, though my mw said most do if it's the whole thing but when my waters broke 4 hours later they were a pinky colour and this was my 'show'.

Hmmmm. It was a big clump (about 3 old 50c coins) and seemed thicker than normal discharge (though normal discharge has changed a bit since starting EPO). It's happened twice since my S&S. No blood.
Ah well, doesn't really mean anything anyway - I'm just curious!

With my first my MP was like a huge ball of snot when you have a bad cold
With my second it was just like jelly blobs every now and then in the few days up to having her, didnt realise at the time but thinking back i am sure it was my MP.

Like little bits of snot. That said mine was coming out for over a week and I never realized what it was. I actually thought it was just normal pregnancy discharge.

Yep mine too. Big clumps of snot and it sometimes had brown blood streaks through it. I started loosing my plug 10 days before Jackson was born.

Like I had blown my nose in my pants! I had it for coming away for 24 hours 5 days before finally going into labour and it was only the last little bit that had any blood streaking so I wasnt sure until then it was my plug.
I then had a massive glob of it a few hours into labour that looked more like the blood streaked stuff you read about.
Its freaking gross!

I'm now pretty sure it is - it's been fairly constant today and is either jelly or snot-like Haven't had anything like this before in the PG.
All a good sign that this time, my body is acknowledging there is a baby in there that needs to come out at some point in the near/medium future. Won't read too much into it

Mine was jelly like and blood streaked, it came away around 8am and I went into labour at approx 8.30 that night! All the best for your labour and birth, exciting!!!

Hmmm I'm having a very similar thing to Flissty. I was just brushing it off as signs of early thrush? But now you got me thinking.. But I'm only 36 weeks and 2 days.
