I had one with DD1 and it was marvelous, planned one with DD2 but she was in too much of a hurry and we didn't have the pool filled in time! Some women find it amazingly relaxing, others don't. Any other questions you have I am more than happy to try and answer.

*sigh* i wish i had gotten mine. (CS for breech lol)

but i still want one for #2 when we get round to it lol. i think of it this way... if i dont like it... i can just get out! if you are thinking about it, better to try it and hop out, than to spend your whole labour thinking about it, then deciding but it not filling up in time iygwim lol.

also could try a bath or shower?

We had one with DS on X,mas Day. It was a HB and we had the pool set up in great anticipation not realising how long it would take to actually fill and keep at the right temperature..lol..but we managed (or rather DH did..hehehe)...I didn't get into the pool until I was 4cm dilated and water hadn't broken but as soon as I did the pain literally subsided and bubs was born no more than an hour later. I had no pain relief and I put it down to the soothing effect of the water and the calm atmosphere in the lounge (even though the telly was on (muted) lol)... DS was born into the water and did not cry nor whimper but had his eyes wide open and curious....We're planning another one this time round too :) All the best to you and it's worth a try. If you're not comfortable just hop out:) Blessings

I can't comment on the waterbirth part, cos , well, its just not for me/
BUT , I can comment on the Botany part, and that is that its a great place to labour at, the rooms are big and roomy, the baths are large (I was my friend's birth partner and she used the bath ) and its quite a relaxed atmosphere, It didn't take long to fill either.
(I had my second at Botany but not with the water)

I had one with my second and it was great. I think the fact you are boyant (sp?) makes a huge difference to your comfort while in labour. I do remember getting in and thinking...dang this still hurts just as bad...but there was no way I was getting out again.

With my third I really wanted another water birth, but he came too quickly. I really noticed the difference when I was trying to get comfortable on the bed while labouring with him. My muscles were quite a bit sorer without the water.

In saying all that, you might have to check with your mw. My sister had the same mw as me and she told her she could labour in the water but not give birth if it was her first baby. Subsequent babies are fine to be birthed in the water.

Good luck with your labour!

I had one at Waitakere Hospital and it was really good (was my first baby as well) - loved being able to float and think it made a difference as didin't need any stitches.

Felt an immediate difference as soon as I got in the pool - couldn't wait for it to full up which seemed to take ages!

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

My sister in law had all 4 of hers with water birth... so I am having the same midwife and will have water birth as well. But I guess it depends on the mother and the situation at the time as well.

I'm with you Bella, v keen to give it a try (for my 1st) and I figure, well hey if it's too painful then you can always hope out and get the drugs in place. Like the idea of less chance of tearing etc.

I think I'm keen to try it also. My cousin just had one with her first and really suggested I try it. I'll see how I feel on the day and just go with the flow though.

I had a water birth with #2 and I would totally recommend it. Was a lot easier to get into a position to give birth. The only thing was that I found it really hot, so it pays to have lots of cool face cloths around (good job for your birth partner), and to not get in too early. I hoped in when I was almost full dilated (mind you I was already 8cm when I arrived at hospital) and was in the pool for around 1 hr.
