Topic: Constantly hungry?? Posted: 21 July 2010 at 8:54am |
Seriously...my toddler eats more than I do in a day! He is 14mths and seems constantly hungry. He's favourite word is "YUM!" and this is how he indicates that he wants something to eat or drink. Anyone else's child like this?? At what age do they start eating because they are bored? Should I restrict how much he eats or just let him decide?

they go through a phase when they do eat more, and they do still have growth spurts too. Mind have definitely been like that sometimes...

Nothing wrong with a healthy appetite! If you're giving him the good stuff, leave him too it. No point worrying about emotional ties to food yet
I have a grazer, eats all day. DD has made me realize how little and how poorly I eat lol! (she has a piece of toast and an apple for breakfast, I've since starting having a peice of toast ) She has the energy she needs to get through a day though, and eats very little crap, so I figure heck, why not? She doesn't always eat a huge dinner but she sleeps well generally so I'm not too concerned by it

I have one of these too. Gabrielle's favourite word is hungry, followed very closely by eat. I try and make sure that all she eats is healthy food, but I am also trying to give her more protein so she feels a bit more full and encourage her to drink in case she is mistaking thirst for hunger. She is by no means a huge kid but she is certainly not small either! My mum says I never seemed to stop eating either and G is pretty much the same height and weight I was at the same age so I figure she is probably ok.
Someone at work did suggest worming her but she doesn't seem to have any itchy bum or anything and I can't see any worms ( ) so I figure she's probably just actually hungry.

I have a hungry toddler too, MAN, can she eat!!! Breakfast is a bowl of cereal or porridge with fruit, and then an hour later she can put away a bunch of grapes with ease.
I figure she DOES leave things behind (sometimes, not often), so she must not eat if she's not hungry. I don't restrict her food, but try and keep it healthy and varied.

This topic is so timely!
Just this morning DS has eaten two weetbix with milk and fruit, two slices of toast, a biscuit, two bananas and some grapes. And he was still hungry so I just made him a sandwich which he has just about polished off.
He's tall and skinny. Normally fussy about eating but I suspect a growth spurt!

DS is a good eater and I seriously wonder how it all fits in there!
A week ago he was just eating ridiculous amounts of food, I put it down to a growth spurt. Back to normal now I guess which is still alot.
I wonder what they will be like as teenagers!!

Caleb is like this, if you added up how much he ate over the course of a day it would be huge. I think a lot of it is the colder weather too. Most days he'd had about six pieces of bread, 1-2 bits of fruit, baking, raisens, his porridge and crackers all before 12 noon. Luckily he slows down in the afternoon.
