Hi

I'm 6 weeks pregnant with my first, following IVF, and I'm 45. Just wondering if there are any others around my age out there?
I can't quite believe it yet, though all my BTs have been 'perfect'. I have my first scan on Tuesday so hopefully there'll be a heart-beat and it will finally seem real. though I can't help thinking about all the things that could go wrong, especially down's syndrome.

Hey, anyone know why this ticker thing won't work ?

Hi Catie ... congrats on your wee bubba ... how exciting.

I'm definitely over 40 ... 41 now and will be 42 by the time my wee girl makes her appearance.

Oh and you are not that old, I know a lady who gave birth earlier this year and she was 52, only complication she had was that she had to be induced as baby wasn't interested in coming out without encouragement.

Whilst there are lots that can go wrong, that can happen at any age, so try not to worry too much.

I did have an amnio (as my NT and bloods combined with age came up slightly high risk) however all is good with my wee girl.

Only thing I've noticed is that I find my body is not bouncing back from colds etc as quickly as before, but the dr promises that is normal for pregnancy regardless of age.

Good luck with your scan on Tuesday, it's nerve wracking and exciting at the same time!

Hi,
Firstly, Congratulations on your wonderful news!
I'm 43, soon to be 44 and about to start IVF in August in the hope of having my first baby. I was in a 9 year relationship that failed approx 18months ago due to my partner being unfaithful so I decided that I was tired of feeling sad about the things I didn't have in life and go get some of them! I had breast cancer 3 years ago and thought I couldn't have children but excitedly, a couple of days ago the doctor told me that my tests were sufficient to give it a go. With the support of friends, I'm hoping to achieve my lifelong dream of being a mum!
I can imagine how excited you are right now! If you'd like to chat, I look forward to it. All the best, Leanne

Hi there, congrats to you catie, must be a wonderful feeling after waiting! and to you Lea_s28 I want to say from the heart, what great courage to go out and get what you want, something wonderful to pass onto your children. Best wishes. Well I had my little girl a month before my 40th birthday and I am now 10 wks pregnant at 42 soon to be 43, and there seem to be many of us out there. My mum who only passed on 2.5yrs ago was 43 when she had me and I was, and still am, immensely proud of her. She had enormous spirit, which I know we will all pass on to our littlies.

Hi

Great to hear from you all!!!

Choco69 - thanks for the good wishes and news of the 52 year old - puts things in perspective! So you're just over halfway thru; it must be great to have all the scary stuff, amnio etc behind you.
Leanne, good on you! Life doesn't always turn out as imagined eh? No doubt we'll all have some hurdles to overcome, but that's the way it goes no matter what twists and turns are ahead.
Noodle, I sure do remember you and your wee miracle! and now another one! Well done you

And number two for you as well millemama! You hear so much about 'advanced maternal age' - this is so reassuring!

We did have a scare yesterday - started bleeding. It seems to have just about stopped now, and I've read that a little bleeding after sex isn't unusual, but it sure gave us a fright - and DH has sworn off sex for the next few months (yeah, right ). I had a blood test scheduled for this morning anyway, so just waiting for the results. Could do without the drama, but after a very anxious day yesterday am feeling a little more philosophical now. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Best wishes, girls.

So much for all my BTs having been perfect - yesterday's wasn't, so (although bleeding has stopped) am definitely freaking out now. Oestrogen was fine, progesterone down a little "but not enough to worry about" but HCG, though risen, "not what we'd like". I said 'but it's at an ok level, isn't it?" and she said "let's just keep our fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow". So I guess that means it's not at an ok level. I'm trying to tell myself that maybe it's just levelling off a bit early, and it's been borderline high every other time so maybe that's a good thing, but I know I'm kidding myself.

Thanks Choco

Yes, the scan did go well - one, strong, healthy heart-beat and a CRL of 8.4m - "perfect". Yay!
So still some concern about why my HCG didn't rise as much as it should have but hopefully nothing major. But another BT and scan next week to make sure everything's ok, before handing me / us on to a LMC, so I guess I better start looking. There was an additional dark patch about 1/3 the size of the fluid sac, which she said was either the other emby which was transferred and didn't develop, or else a haemorrhage, but didn't seem worried either way.

I hope all's well with you guys.

great measurements - was more than my bean was at that stage and once you see the heartbeat it makes a huge difference! and don't worry too much about the HCG it happens to others as well and some women have levels that just fluctuate

hoping the next results still keep trending upwards!

Hi Catie
I'm so pleased and relieved for you. I read your messages for the first time yesterday (signed in yesterday for the first time and was anxious to see your next post)
I bled all the way through my last pregnancy and a real reason was not discovered - thought it might be to do with a cervical erosion. It was really scary though. Have bled this time too at 6 weeks and again at 8 weeks but all good now at 16 weeks thankfully.
I'm 40 and pregnant with our 4th! quite a shock!will be nearly 41 when he/she arrives. A good friend of mine was 46 when she had her last, thought she had kidney stones, went for a scan and got told there were no stones but there was a heartbeat!
Hope all goes wonderfully well for you and your growing bump!

Thanks for all the good wishes and reassuring words - it really makes a difference. I'm normally pretty relaxed and positive - honest!

Hi Momof3. Wow, I bet it was a shock! Though at 16 weeks I guess you're getting used to it!

I did some googling and it does seem like if HCG starts off on the high side it can taper off a bit early, so that's a relief. (I had sworn off google coz it only ever seemed to confirm my fears, so nice to get some reassurance for once!)

so yeah, it is finally starting to seem real even though i still don't have any other symptoms apart from slightly sore boobs and an anxious DH (which I'm sure should count for something

So now it's time to find a LMC. We want an obstetrician and will have a referral to public. had been thinking about going private but at $4000 min I'm wondering whether it's worth it, esp as it seems you still don't get great continuity anyway, just whoever's available. any experience/thoughts?

thanks

Hi Catie

have replied about OBs in your other thread - I feel it's worth the $3500 that I'm paying, mainly as I have already had complications and they have been amazing - my mother who is a worrier and comes to my appointments has found that she feels much more at ease now as she knows that any time day or night that they will be there for me and bubs (and the OB is more than happy to explain things to her to make her feel comfortable with whatever happens as well)

if you ever want to meet up for a coffee/hot choc or just want to talk then send me a pm

glad you are feeling calmer about it all

Janine

Great to hear the good news Catie. I think I may have figured out your ticker probs, as I have just figured out how to fit both mine on, am not techie in the least! so this may or may not help. I have 1 Daisypath and 1 Lillypie through Daisypath, they both ask what format you are using them for, ie forums, then choose "pseudoHTML, UBBCode and BB Code" and copy that onto your signature. Hope that works.

Thanks millemama - I finally have a ticker (though I can't help worrying that I'll jinx myself - so silly and superstitious, I know). Roll on BT on Monday and scan on Tuesday, then hopefully I can finally be reassured and relax for a few weeks. At least until the down syndrome testing etc starts!

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Hi

Bad news. Although my HCG levels had improved on monday, when I went for scan on Tues there was no heartbeat.

I'd thought everything was ok, so told DH not to bother as he had an important work thing, so was by myself. Another scan at the radiologists to confirm. Then D&C yesterday to 'complete the process'. I can't believe my one and only pregnancy is over! I guess I at least got a few precious weeks, and got to see a heartbeat, which DH missed as was in Aus. We are heartbroken.

I'm so sorry sweetie, my heart breaks for you, this little angel just wasn't ready yet, but please don't lose heart... Its hard to fathom the 'why?' in things sometimes.

My heart goes out to you.
