Topic: When did you start setting up the nursery Posted: 02 May 2011 at 8:16pm |
When is a good time to start setting up babies room?
I want to start soon as I'm hoping we will realise if we are missing anything! I am also already starting to get really tired and don't want to leave it too late and not enjoy it! We are 27 weeks at the moment

If you feel like it, start now Can't hurt to be organised
I can't remember when we put the cot etc up. I think it was before 32 weeks, though (that was when I left work).

I found it was best to start with small tasks.. one day I'll wash the curtains.. one day I'll clean the walls.. set up the bassinet etc.. that way you can kind of savour it (I still go in there and just sit and look at everything!) but also not get too tired.
I found the big stuff like moving the furnaiture in was a good place to start and left things like washing the clothes and things until a bit later (got them all finished at 34 weeks - so it was set up for my baby shower ) so they were the cleanest.
Happy nesting!

With my first it was from 20 weeks i started getting everything
This time around it was before 20 weeks but i had it all sitting there already from DD. So was just a case of rearranging and cleaning out the room etc
Ive been all set this time since 20 weeks though

We started buying little things after our 12 week scan and put things together as we got them i.e. the cot, pram, etc. For me it was more a work in progress over 6/7 months rather than an all weekender kinda affair if that makes sense.
Have fun

Do it now if you want to, you'll never get round to it once bubs is born.
Once we had the cot up and we had to assemble it in the room as it won't go thru the door way. It was easier to see where things could go.
We moved 3 weeks before DD was born and putting up the cot and putting her furniture in place is as far as we got.
Curtains only went up the week before. It was a mad rush I could have done without.

I got over excited and started at around 17 weeks when I stopped being sick haha. It took me until about 37 weeks to be fully finished. My husband suggested that I shouldn't do it all at once as I would be twiddling my fingers for the rest of the pregnancy. I'm glad I took his advice cause it gave me something to look forward to every few days.
I made a huge list of things we needed to buy before baby was born, things we would like (if the more important things were bought and we had enough spending money) and things we could do without until later on - eg: high chair ect. If you make a detailed list, then you just slowly purchase things on special. We got some great deals cause I would just refer to my list and see if it was on there. Then tick it off once it was bought.

Oh good, I thought I was being too over excited wanting to start at 27weeks :) We have lots of stuff already, we have been really lucky with people passing down things to us. I want to start organising the room though and making sure we have everything we need ... a list is definately on the cards :)
Thanks :)

haha had a little giggle to myself as we have to actually build the nursery this time round (its part of our extension/renovations)!!!!
Last time tho I started from about 20 weeks before that I stripped the wallpaper and Dad repainted etc DH couldnt wait to put up the cot so that went up early on. I just loved going in there and pottering around - so time wasting but so much fun.

With our first we started straight after the 12 week scan and were done not long after the anatomy scan including putting up the cot.
This time we started a couple of weeks ago, around 20 weeks and have mainly cleared out the room now and bought lots of stuff. But won't have the cot set up till DS is in his big boy bed. But hoping to get drawers soon to play the rearranging game again.
If you've got to clear out lots, I'd do it soon before you get too tired.

Okay so any tips on what I should be doing?
LOL Our poor baby, we really don't have a clue what we are doing and we have no family here to help ... we can give it lots of love but think it might need some other things too

The first thing we did was strip wallpaper and got a plaster in to plaster the walls and then we painted - but you may not be going to those lengths.
After that I cleaned the windows - I would have done walls and skirting if not freshly painted.
Then put up cot first only as DH was an eager beaver and then just started putting things away that we were given - sorting out the wardrobe and turning that into a good storage space.
Try to keep in mind only a babies room for a year and then a toddler with toys for Africa

Wow we are pretty slack in comparison to you guys! We are at 33 weeks and still not really done much except clean walls and windows and stick up wall decals.. we have been waiting on the change table though and that will finally arrive tomorrow so maybe then we can do stuff! Though I could have been doing all the washing before now

I think I got ours done about 34 weeks last time which was when I finished work so I had a bit of time to kill.
This time we will be painting the room and then will start setting up. I want to wait for the anatomy scan so I can decorate for boy or girl.

We are buying the drawers next month & i'll arrange to pick up the cot / basinette from my sisters round the same time. so that will be around 20ish weeks, would like to shampoo the carpets to but might be best to wait for summer on that one!
I've already started buying consumables though, and the cloth nappies as they take a few washes to be ready.
