Topic: BF while pregnant and MS? Posted: 13 February 2011 at 1:52pm |
I'm curious about your experiences with BF and MS?
By this stage last pg, I was feeling utterly rotten, whereas this time, I'm just tired and a bit of a fussy eater. DH made the comment that the pg hormones probably aren't so much of a shock to the system this time cos I'm still *drugged up* on BF hormones.
So I was curious how many of you found MS was better in pg where you were BF than when you were not?

Well T_rex, you may find this good news, Last time I threw up about once every day to every couple of days (so not terrible but still there MS) and this time round still BF 3-4 times daily and no throwing up... AT ALL!!! Just a bit nauseous, not hungry, and super sensitive nose is all.
I think its the best way to go, I'm def not weaning until the MS is gone at least and perferrably not till shes 1 as well!

I never thought of that!
I had no MS or nausea at all with Willem (kept waiting for it to hit as although my MS with Jude wasn't super bad, I was still was quite nauseous from around 6wks to perhaps 9ish wks) - it could very well be that I was still BF Jude til I was in the third trimester? (the downside of BF while pregnant was the super sensitive nipples that meant Jude was weaned at around 15months when I had originally thought I'd go until around 18months or when he wanted to stop himself).

I never thought about it that way either.
With DD I had MS and spewed a bit felt like I was going to die and was really tired.
With DS I was just tired and sometimes felt a bit sick if I hadn't eaten. I fed DD till 18 months so was about 6 ish months pregnant I think.

Awesome! I'm still feeling just mildly grotty, so fingers crossed that might be as bad as it gets

First time I threw up pretty much at least once a day - for nearly the whole 9 months. And I never got the 2nd trimester energy burst people got
This time, we don't feed that often (anywhere between 2-6 times a day - depending on his mood and the heat) and I've been not nearly as sick - and then generally only when I've got an empty stomach. So I throw up maybe once every few days. Worse if it's really hot.
The first few months I was absolutely exhausted. It was a struggle to get off the couch*. But now that's lifting and I'm feeling better generally - yay!
*not helped by me thoughtlessly going "Hey - you need some cuddles and to settle down - come lay with me for a feed so I can rest too" totally forgetting how many calories that burns and it's not really a rest at all!

Interesting! I haven't been through this myself but my sister was bf when she got pregnant with her second, had bad ms with the first and not with the 2nd. Seems like there's something in it!

I think I'm going to buck the trend and say mine has been worse this time, and I'm still BF although only 2-3times per day (so maybe not enough). My guess is that it would be an individual thing.

Thanks for the bump.
It is so reassuring to hear these comments. I have had no symptoms whatsoever this time around (still feeding at least 10 times a day), whereas I was constantly nauseas all day long with DS.

Huh, I've barely felt preggy this time around and am still BF DS2. Never put them together though! when I was pg with DD I was BF DS1 and pretty sure I had a little nausea. In saying that though, I haven't had bad MS with any pregnancies anyway!

Well, I'm bucking the trend in that I've been a lot sicker with this one - but can still reassure you that my pregnancies have been SO very different its amazing, but Jacob was fine and healthy and this bubby looked fine at the scan yesterday.

damm Hopes. Reading this made me almost think that I could handle being pregnant again (I had severe MS with both kids lasting almost the entire pregnany) and that maybe this was the 'magic cure' but maybe not.

Awww stink Hopes. Sorry to hear you've been feeling dreadful again - I thought you had it bad enough the first time!! Congrats on the girl too - awesome news!!
I agree though, that these pregnancies have been as different as night and day. I'm curious to see how different the babies are (oh please let this one be healthy and fond of sleeping!).
