Hi ladies

I went to visit my ob yesterday and he did a scan with the little portable scan machine and it showed baby to be 9w3d and based on my previous scan I had I should have been 9w6d.

He didnt seem worried and saw bubs heartbeat and to be honest the picture on the machine was quite fuzzy and he struggled to get the measurements as it wasnt that clear on the screen.

I had the early scan on the same machine but internally.

Just wanted to hear from anyone else that have had slightly different measurements at early scans.

I know that in reality its probably quite easy to get inaccuracys on such a machine as its a portable one not as good as ones at radiology and is the ob doing the measurement not a radiologist but still Im a worrier!

I don't think any of the scans I had with any of my pregnancies the measurements have matched with my actual gestation. The early ones always measured less than what I was and the late ones measured way ahead of where I was.

I think the radiologist said there was a +/- margin of about a week or so?

I know its hard not to worry but since you saw that heartbeat ticking away feel reassured.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

I wouldn't be worried at all about being 3 days out. At that stage 3 days would be a tiny difference in measurements. All of my scans last time showed slightly different dates, this time they haven't given a date at all at my scans, they obviously make sure it's close enough to my EDD and say it's consistent with that.

I'm pretty sure that at 7-8wks there is a +/- 4 day variation and at 12 wks its +/- 7 days...so not very accurate. 3 days out is nothing.

Yeah, three days is nothing to worry about. None of my scans measured bang on for dates, and I'm sure they hardly ever do match exactly!

I wouldnt worry either. Ive had 2 scans so far and both had different dates but only within a few days

My midwife told me they dont adjust dates unless they are over 1 week out. Im not sure if this is for all midwives or just some

At my 12 week scan the lady took three measurements to get the date and one was 11w4d, one was 12w2d and one was 12w4d, it gave me a date of 12w2d, but according to my early scan I would of been exactly 12.

I had an internal with my second and externally I measured 7w and when did internal it put me 2 extra days ahead and this was on the proper scanner not just a portable one.

So in short, no don't worry at all.
