Does anyone know if there is a significant difference between the 401 and the 201?

$279 v $399 and it would appear they do the same thing????

Thanks!

We have the 201 - which was given to us, but if I had to buy one I would get the 401. What I like about the 401 is that it has the temp displayed on the parent unit - I go into the babys room so many times at night to check the temp is ok - am paranoid about cooking her!

Also, the night light would be handy too. Plus the 401 has 6 more channels than the 201, we find that we can sometimes pick up the baby next door, or the neighbours tv.

These are just little things, but they are a bit annoying - I would pay the $100 difference to get the better one in the first place.

I found the 401 at a good price here http://www.littlehedgehog.co.nz/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=73 . Also, you could try TM for a second hand one, we had to get ours fixed (cat knocked it over) and the place that serviced it was great, so I wouldn't be too worried about buying second hand.

That is really helpful feedback, thanks for that.

Do you think you actually need a sound and movement monitor? I don't want to be cheap and regret it but I just wonder if it is one of those extras that you don't really need.

I guess some people would probably think its a waste of money, but personally I think its great, esp the movement sensor. I sleep a lot easier at night knowing that the alarm will sound if for whatever reason she stops moving. Chances are, that I will never actually need it (breastfed, non-smoking house, slept on her back etc) but it just gives me peace of mind - I think for the sake of a few hundred dollars, it is definately worth it. Then again, I am a bit paranoid, as my cousins baby died of cotdeath when I was a kid, and I know of a another baby through a friend that it happened to as well

DS was in a deep sleep a few weeks ago when our AC stopped detecting movement - DH and I swear our hearts stopped beating when we heard it make the single beep. That one beep alone made the price of a motion sensor worthwhile IMO. In our list of top 10 baby products, we rank it at #1.

We think it is worth it as well. At the moment bubs is sleeping in with us so we are just using the movement sensor. A couple of nights ago he was quite wheezy with his breathing and I think having the sensor is the only reason I got sleep (otherwise I would have been awake all night checking and worrying).

I wasn't going to get one but my girl was prem and we'd had one too many scares in the NICU with her stopping breathing so I couldn't feel comfortable without one.
BUT it also makes me relax a little when we've had to do other thngs that I would otherwise have worried about like letting her sleep on her tummy (she went through a phase during her reflux where this was her only comfortable sleeping position) and her covering her face with her blankie to go to sleep.

But when they wriggle of the sensors and the alarm goes off it will take years off your life.

I don't tell people it's essential but I have definitely felt much happier having it.

I our AC monitor. Wouldnt be without it. Jackson has just turned 1 and we still use it We only have the 201 and I totally recommend it. Although I would like the 401 now just from an upgraded perspective though.

Great, thanks for the responses. I had always been going to get one but then started doubting myself wondering if it was actually required.

Hi Clover, We ordered ours from this Aust site http://www.babyzonedirect.com.au/baby-bedtime/baby-monitors.html

The 401 is Au$247 which, even with the conversion still works out cheaper than to buy from here, I just don't know how much shipping would be, we got ours shipped to my sis in law and she brought it over when she came to visit before Isabella was born. We absolutely love ours! We are still using it and Isabella is nearly 1.

I didn't think we needed a monitor because we live in an apartment until my sis in law mentioned this one. I swear it is the only thing that gave me confidence in moving her from the bassinette in our room to her cot in her own room (yes, call me the paranoid first time mum...I'm muuuch better now though!).

Edited: Sorry, the price above is actually the 402 which has the 2 monitors and 2 pads. I think the only difference between the 402 and 401 is that the 401 only has 1 monitor but still has the 2 pads. The 401 is $209.

Good Luck and have fun shopping!

Hi, i'm a bit new here but planning TTC next year & have been lurking for a while figure it's better to spread out the purchases, make informed decisions etc.

I've been researching the AC monitor & the general concensus (from several nz forums) seems to be that it's quite invaluable, especially in terms of giving you better sleep as you know it'll beep if baby stops moving. this is my one MUST HAVE item that i'm not budging on, and I figure why not have the latest model for peace of mind. Hope was helpful!
