Hi Guys

So I am really interested in BLW and from what I have read so far it sounds like lots of people have had a fair amount of success with it. What I am wondering is how many people out there have done BLW with babies that are formula fed.

It seems that if they are demand fed that it should work, I'm not sure if I would say Lexie is demand fed or not, I feed her when she is hungry but that is generally every 3 hours, though sometimes she might have a bottle earlier or later than that.

Thanks in advance

I would say that is demand feeding, feeding when she is hungry.

I just read an article on BLW and it says the basic principles are... BM or Formula until 6 months and no solids until then... no purees or mash, only whole pieces of soft food, eat with rest of family so learn to mimic, no expectation to get much in their mouth, etc...

Don't know if that helps, but it shouldn't be a problem that she is FF iygwim...

It also says that until they learn to push the food back and swallow etc they don't eat a whole lot which can take a couple of weeks...

I recommend getting the BLW book by Gill Rapley. Its a fantastic read.

TBH I reckon (although Im no expert) it would work even if a baby was FF on a routine

I think the book has a section on FF & BLW but I don't have it with me right now. From what I recall - BLW & FF works just as well as BLW & BF. I reckon it would work just as well whether routine feed or not.

I think the main thing is to always remember to offer water more often as well? Jude was also offered water right from the start but if he didn't drink he got that from BF anyway. Also I think the book may say something about FF babies not taking to different tastes straight away? BF babies experience lots of different tastes through BM but FF not so much.

But all babies are different, as I was saying in the other thread my sister has a baby the same age as Jude. It's quite amazing how different they are with food. Jude wolfs his down and wants more, whereas Luke could take it or leave it most of the time.

Go for it I say

Even though we have been doing solids for a while now - it still cracks me up. Haha.

P.S. I also rcommend Gill Rapley's book

I formula fed from birth, and did BLW when DD turned 6 months. She was on a pretty good routine but we just offered her food about an hour after each bottle, lunch first, then breakfast and finally dinner. She took to it like a duck to water and figured out this eating malarky within a couple of weeks. She's now 16months and eats anything and everything, in great quantities! Its been a big success and lots of fun. We let her drop her bottles in her own time, which she did gradually and is now down to two bottles a day.
