Ok, so I wasn't too sure where to start with this or who to ask and I was sure that this would be a good place to start as alot of us have young ladies it seems around the same age or older at the moment.

I am fully aware that the next 2 years holds alot for Paris... from what i can see by the time they are 9-ish, most girls are starting to really start tranforming into those tweens.

Ok so here's my question really, Paris is a very active wee lady, tearing about the place she hops skips and jumps her way through the day.

Today she came up to hug me and I was like "WTF?" She had this, hhm how can i say, She had a teenagery BO smell. This completely took me aback because I was fairly sure that so far I have never had this from her ever no matter how much she's sweated and torn about the place.

Of course I just quietly talked to her about a few of her friends that she knew who are all about 9 or 10 and are very obviously changing, and how our bodies change a bit in the next few years. I then took her and gave her a wee small spray of my deodorant under each arm - just a spritz.

Has anyone else had this at this age? what age did you have to start getting your girl some deodorant of her own?

What am I in for? I have absolutely no idea where to go from here. It's the start of very unchartered waters, any advice from those who have been there, even just slightly ahead of me, would be wonderful.

HELP!!

Im not sure how old your daughter is...but I don't recon it matters what age they are...if they need deoderant, then just get it for her. I cant remember how old my daughter was when she first started getting BO, but it was pretty young. She was also pretty young when she started wearing a bra and aslo when she got her first period.
Sounds like you handled it pretty well.
I would just start talking to her about how her body is changing and now how its important that she cleans under her arms well each day. I think with my daughter I bought her some body spray to use and moved onto proper deoderant a bit later when it was every day that she would get BO smells. I recon it is much better to talk to them about puberty when they are younger because they don't get so silly and giggly about it all when they are older.
Don't be scared about it all, its a great time to have some one on one with your daughter and some really fun girly chats with her. I used to combine chats with my DD about puberty and stuff with also how girls behave and tried to encourage her to be a 'nice' girl rather than a catty girl IYKWIM. Stuff like standing up for yourself and your friends and not getting involved with teasing etc.
I bet she will love having her own body spray or deoderant as it will be something special that she has that her little sister doesnt.

Good luck!

That sounds like good advice! I was gonna say that most girls are really into the pretty smells of things (I know Ivy loves it when I give her a squirt of body spray and she's only almost 5!) So I imagine that your big girl would think it was pretty cool to have her own. I loathed having to wear a bra, and I got my period just before I turned 11 - I was fully prepared for that (we'd had a class at school and Mum had prepared me well) but not for the bra! So talking casually about the changes and the 'cool' things you get to have when you're a bit older and your body is developing is probably a good way to go about it. I'm freaking out about this as well cause my girls seem to be growing up very fast!
Good luck *hugs*

I dont envy you there....mind you at least you have girls and not stinky boys to look forward to (yeuk). DH hit puberty early (as in was shaving in third form when I met him) so I'm expecting it early in the boys....and hoping like hell for them that it doesnt happen. I was nearly 12 with my period and bra around then too (though it was not necessary looking back).

Do you want her to have deoderant now? I know I'd be hesitant at starting so young. Is she washing well and often? Is she coming down with something? If she is unwell she might smell funny (just clutching at straws here). I'd also be tempted to try a natural deoderant too. but thats me, I worry about all these thing with our littlies....but not myself.

My DD is 11 and I bought her her first deodrant a couple of months ago. For her 11th birthday actually. She had been wanting some for a good few months before that. Not that I'd been aware that she needed it for the smell factor. She went to school camp earlier in the year and had come back saying she was the only girl in her class without it. Don't know if that is strictly true, but a lot of her friends definitely had it.

When I gave it to her we talked about sensible usage of it too. Like not taking it to school and applying it 10 times a day. Also it goes UNDER the clothing, not on top. (Used to be the craze back when I was that age... of all the stupid ideas!!)

If you don't want to go straight to a antiperspirant deodorant you could try just a deodorant.

Thanks ladies, she's all good fine today i think maybe she was just really over the top hot and sweaty.... I think mostly my questions have kinda been answered.. same thing I was thinking in that really I don't want it to be a regular thing unless she particularly really needs it. I may next time at the shopping have a wee look for a tiny roll on of her own that I can point her towards on the times it's a problem.

She's really good in that I can talk to her with little bits of information and she takes it all in very well and is ok with things. She's always been a very easy kid to talk to about things and will ask questions if she needs to.
