I have finally gotten rid of Ashleigh's bottles (she was having one before bed every night). She was doing ok ish having her milk in a normal cup but the last few nights won't drink any at all, or just a couple of mouthfuls. Is it still important for a child her age to be drinking milk? She has a small amount of cereal in the morning, but doesn't really have much yoghurt and has a little bit of cheese - so not much calcium. The only other time she will drink milk during the day is if I make her a "chocolate drink" - milk with a 1/4tsp of the cadburys drinking chocolate in it.

Spencer dropped his night time milk about a month ago and I haven't worried about it. Spencer is actually allergic to milk so all he gets is the specialist formula first thing in the morning, rice milk on his cereal and then some soy yoghurt and cheese now and then. He is pretty much dropping the morning milk feed as well. There is calcium in lots of other foods and you could always make her choc milk with one of the milks that has extra calcium in it if you are worried about. The rice milk I buy has extra calcium added so I assume that you can buy a normal milk that has added calcium?
Isla has had 50mls of milk (soy)or less at night for months and months now. Im sure they are still meant to have much more than this tho. Isla has milk on her breakfast and a wee bit of cottage chesse a couple of times a week, and thats it. I just dont know how to get more into her either! Isla loves brocolli and raisins and eats these most days and they have calcium too!
Yay for ditching the bottles. I wouldnt worry to much about milk, as long as she gets some other form of calcium. Maybe a dairy type dessert would entice her (eg custard or ice cream)
