Dom is 2 in April and we are wanting him to start sleeping in his big boy bed. I have been trying to get him to have his daytime nap in it but he thinks its just for playing on though and asks to be put in his cot. I thought a gradual process would be best but now Im not sure. We definately need him to start sleeping in there soon as Isobelle is fast out growing her bassinette.
I would love any advice or tips.

We tried gradual and found it didn't work so ditched the cot altogether and after a few sleeps he got over it and knew that bed was bed and cot was no more

I started at night first and once we had that done then went onto daytime naps. Just the other day, I got him to help move the cot out of his room - telling him it was now for babies and he has been fine ever since. Most daytime naps though he often falls asleep on the floor. Just be prepared for the bedroom to be stripped bare - we even had to turn the bookshelf around backwards to stop him destroying his books.

I thought that might be the case. Im kind of dreading teaching him to sleep in his big bed at night, there will be a few tearful nights ahead for us I think.
Thanks for the advice!

We just moved Noah. He helped put the bed up and take the cot down and in to his little sisters room. He was really excited to sleep in his bed big. He fell out of it the first night but hasn't had any trouble since. We found the cold turkey approach worked really well.

Success! I didn't think it would work so quickly. The cot is still in his room as haven't had time to move it but he went to sleep in his big bed. We had one grizzle (books everywhere as predicted by cat!) but I just picked him up and told him that he has his daytime sleeps in his big boy bed now, put him back to bed with bear and low and behold I haven't heard a squeak from him since. Yay!!

Well, since my last post Dom has been quite good, except for yesterday when he went absolutely ape and tore his room apart before falling asleep in front of the door! And he only slept for an hour. He usually sleep for two hours. So a very grumpy and tired boy yesterday afternoon! He went down well today though so not sure why he wouldn't yesterday. I have decided that he has another week to get used to the idea of sleeping in the big bed and then we are going to start doing night times in the bed too. Should be interesting....he plays up so much more at night.

We are so lucky I guess that Noah has it in his head that he can't get out of bed unless one of us is there LOL.
