I will check with MW, but just wanted to ask on here as well.
I am fit, a runner...endurance, ex pro athlete, ironman etc so am still running through preg. Max 20-30mins a few times a week at very slow pace. i did not much in first trimester due to sickness/tiredness but now 18 weeks and back to running as the above. I noticed tonight an achy pain across my lower tummy ..from memory the same place as labour pains in DS 1. I stopped running and walked, then jogged again. The pain doesnt get worse or go away if I keep running / walking but after I stop for 10 mins the pain goes. Is this something anyone else has experienced, is it ok? what is it?? As said I run very slow, have previously done a lot of running and I do stop and walk, I run at night ie 8pm so its cool and keep my HR down.

I have similiar when exercising and just put it down to two things. One - BH as I always found I got more of those when excercising and although everyone tells me they shouldn't hurt mine always felt a little sore. two- Stretching pains as when you exercise your body is work its muscle whilst at the same time still being stretched.
Sounds like you are doing the right thing by easing back a little and just staying in tune with your body. It is what I do to.

I tend to get stitch-like pain very low across my tummy (under bump) or along one side when I walk too fast or up hills. I'm not a runner but have been a gym junkie for 15 years and until recently was doing hill climbs on the treadmill and cross trainer 1-2 times a week. I've decided it's my body's way of saying "too much, slow down" so have stuck to medium paced walking on the flat and have been pain-free since. Have also stepped up the yoga sessions to make sure the muscles are getting a good stretch regularly.

Definitely talk it over with your MW and go with what your body is telling you. I found it hard to adjust to not going as hard out (therefore losing fitness) but reckon it's probably better for me and bubs to make some adjustments to my exercise routine than keep trying to do what I used to.

Well done on keeping fit (as much as poss!) during your pregnancy

I am a pretty keen runner, endurance etc and had a very similar thing, eventually. I ran (slow, several times a week) for maybe 5 months and then it got really hot and didn't feel quite comfortable (that stitchy pain), so I just let it go. For me, it wasn't quite enjoyable enough to continue with by that point. But I know other people have run right through, so it just depends how you feel.

I ended up just continuing cycling to work etc for exercise, and swimming now and then. Still cycling sedately at 37 weeks no probs. Have missed the running a little, but the mugginess has made swimming pretty nice too. All the best, go with what you feel I guess

This lady wrote a blog about keeping running - it's a nice leisurely read if it's something you're interested in (I think you have to go back to older ones to get the bit where she's pregnant).

I am definatley no endurance athlete but i know the pain you are talking about, i got it with both my boys once I got past 20 weeks, I think its just your muscles and uterus stretching.

I agree with everyone else, start back into it slowely and if it doesnt get better then perhaps walk rather than run till after you have your bub.

ETA: From what I have read about pregnancy there is nothing wrong with continuing exercise that you were previously doing but dont attempt to try new hard core things. Like with me I was doing up to 2.5 hours 4x a week of roller derby training and boxing at least 4x a week. I know that its not safe to train anymore for roller derby but I am now walking daily and still boxing for as long as it feels ok.

Because your little person has taken up space inside you, your abdominal wall is compromised so you are not getting the support you require told hold your posture in the correct alignment (especially when running/walking on an incline). Also dont forget this is your second, so your abdominal wall is weaker than it was post any children to start with.

You could prob just try flat plodding .. but I would stop doing something that "hurts" thats your bodies way of telling you something isnt right.

Checked with MW today and she said its just stretching etc and ok to continue as long as I have fluid, keep cool dont over heart and keep to talking pace. If the pain turns to "pain" stop, otherwise its ok. Soi I will keep going a little longer! Thanks for your advice.
