    Posted: 23 January 2011 at 6:06pm
I have just had my dating scan and by my dates I should be 7w5d but by the sonographers I am 6wks and there is NO fetal heartbeat!!
There is a yolk sac and embryo but no heart beat.
I am beside myself with worry as my first preg ended in mis btwn 8-10wks. This will be my third baby, hopefully!!
I am waiting for the hospital to get back to me with an appt for another scan and blood test but in the meantime I am truely worried. Can't believe we could be going thru this a second time!! Its killing me not knowing.

Has anyone else been thru this and what was your outcome.
Am trying to stay positive but also preparing myself for the worse!

I'm so sorry to hear that I haven't been there myself, but didn't want to read and run. I know there have been ladies on here in similar situations - although I can't remember the exact dates, the thread I remember was a good news one, the next scan showed a heartbeat. How sure are you about your dates?

Do you have long cycles? Because if you do, then you probably ovulated later than you thought which would cause the scan to show only 6wks, and that is quite early for a heartbeat...

Good luck, I hope your follow up scan has good news for you!!

I thought I was pretty sure of my dates and I think my cycles were btwn 24-28days.
But I am truely hoping that I was wrong!
I'm walking around feeling my boobs all the time just to make sure they are still tender and am elated when I feel a wave of nausea, which is not that often. But it could still be hormones.Just wanna know one way or the other!
Thnx for your posts

Good luck, it's a horrible wait - but that's all you can do. Late implantation? And 6wks is super early. Hope next scan goes better.

Oh, I have my fingers crossed for you!

I've just had a miscarriage, by my dates I was 6w2d when I started bleeding, and 6w6d when I had a scan. The scan showed nothing other than possible "remains" (in the words of the sonographer!).
Hopefully its a good sign that the embryo and yolk sac are obvious, and if the dates are correct at 6 weeks, then hopefully its just a tad early to get a heart beat. I really hope the second scan gives you some good news.

I had my first scan at 6 weeks and there was an embryo and yolk sac but no HB. At the follow up scan at 8.5 weeks there was a HB and the embryo was only measuring at 6.5 weeks. By the next scan at 10 weeks he'd caught up to where he should be and had a head, torso and little limb buds waving around!

So don't give up hope yet... hang in there and I really hope you have good news at your next scan

FX for you that your story is just like Anja's.
For me I had a scan and there was an embryo and sac but not HB - measuring at 6w2d, but the sac was larger than they would have expected, unfortunatley at the next scan a week laster bubs hadn't grown and still no heart beat so was a missed MC.
FX for you that your next scan all wrks out OK.

FX and GL and big hugs to you... I know Kiwilaurie had a similiar plight with her wee man and he arrived in a hurry in November so another happy ending to help you hold hope.

I can still remember looking at the screen and seeing there wasnt a heart beat and waiting for the sonograher to confirm it, it is the most awful feeling in the world. Sadly we lost our wee bean but I will cross everything that your wee one is just playing hard to get!

Big hugs

I don't really have any advice to offer, just don't give up hope and try not to stress too much (near on impossible, I know - I had two losses before I carried my DD to term last year and stress is my middle name!).

Probably not very helpful, sorry - just couldn't read and run!

Got everything crossed for you.

All fingers crossed for you. I bled through the whole first tri with this wee bub and the first scan I had showed only a fetal pole and yolk sac, no heart beat. It was a horrible wait to see if it was a viable pregnancy :/ Next scan about 5 days later I saw the little flicker of the heart!!

FX you have a great outcome and it was just a little early like my first scan.

Thank you all very much, it really is very comforting reading all your feedback and hearing that there still may be a chance.
My heart goes out to all of you that have a suffered a loss, I know its not an easy time.

I had my first blood test this morning and then a follow up one on Wed and hopefully my HCG will have increased, if not then its not a good sign. I have a scan booked for Fri morning.
This is going to be longest and hardest week ever, especially as every little ache and pain I feel in my stomache, my heart stops.
My only hope is one does feel a few aches a pains in the early stages of pregnancy with the streatching of ligaments etc.
And my boobs are still tender and today I have felt like crap, but that could also be tension.
I suppose what will be will be and have to try and stay as positive as I can

This pregnancy I had a dating scan at 6+3 weeks. There was a pregnancy sack and the scan lady said she could only just see a fetal pole, no heartbeat. I thought she was a bit useless as I'd had 'issues' with her last pregnancy. My doctor sent me for another scan at nearly 9 weeks. Same lady scanned me there was a heartbeat and everything was measuring exactly where it should. She said 'oh baby must have been hiding last time'. Like wtf? lol

Good luck. I hope everything works out well for you.

Good luck, I hope your blood tests go up.

I am another good story, we went for an early scan and there was no hb but when we went back a week later there was hb and little arms and legs kicking about lol.

I was just sorting through my first babes notes etc, and my first scan was at 7 weeks, as I had some bleeding - no heartbeat - talk about freak out!! the next lot is for 8.5 weeks and states live fetus so I guess thats when I saw hers for the first time

The next one I was 9 weeks and the heartbeat was there, I do recall my midwife saying dotn expect a heartbeat for under 8 weeks, and then there is the whole 'when did you concieve' question

Hope your doing ok

Thnx again to you all for your words of encouragement. It really give me hope just reading your stories!!
It has been a hellish week so far, just waiting and not knowing. And trying to be normal mum to my 2 kids!!
Have had both sets of blood tests, Mon & today, so should know results tomorrow.
I am still having symptoms so hopefully they are real and not just from the stress and anxiety.
It sdefinitely the unknown that is getting to me, but hopefully next time I log onto her its with good news!!
