Topic: co-sleeping with 2 kids Posted: 11 July 2011 at 6:55pm |
I've been sleeping with DS since he was born and he's now 2.5. We really love co-sleeping still, but I'm wondering what to do when baby#2 arrives in Nov as we have a queen size bed and there's definitely no room for another baby in there! I'm trying to decide between buying a gigantic bed, a side-car cot, or maybe 2 bedrooms both with big beds so we can all juggle sleeping arrangements. Just wondering what worked for others?

Great thread, we are still cosleeping but discussing #2 and currently have a 16/17 month old. DP wants DD in her bed by the time #2 comes but I can't quite see that happening! ATM the 3 of us are crammed into a double as we have her cot set up sidecar style but she won't go in there even though it's added another 70cm to the bed! It's just not 'close' enough to me! I am considering though that if she is still in our bed that we will have DP, dd then me on the other end and new baby in the cot right up against the bed... But we'll see!
All the best!
We may get a bigger bed though as ours is crammed - double and the springs are going on it because it was a cheap bed and DP bungs the springs being so big!

I don't co-sleep DD although I might co-sleep the next one if that works for us, but a friend of mine managed to get her nearly 3-year-old sleeping on a single bed in their room rather than the same bed for most of the night before the next one arrived. She still wakes quite often in the early hours and will just come and climb in between the parents (the new baby sleeps on the outside next to the mum). I'm not sure how big a bed they have but they are all pretty little people which I'm sure helps!

I co-sleep with the baby in our queen bed...and most every night DF sleeps with our 2 year old in her new double bed in her room lol It was pointless moving her from a cot to a toddler bed as they were sharing sleep most nights in the spare single bed so we just accepted our status as a co-sleeping household and bit the bullet and bought her a reaallly big girls bed LMAO We also have a toddler bed made up in the nursery/playroom if the time comes either of the girls ever wants to sleep in that too.
Also, the new double bed for our toddler is actually part of a bunk set that has a single on top...so thinking waaay into the future, the girls will be able to sleep together (which I love the thought of ) or one of them sleep on the top bunk. Trial and error I say is the way to go hehe
Good luck with experimenting and have fun!

Rofl Karen, we are getting Lily a similar bed for Xmas *blush* for similar reasons hahaha! I've accepted we are co-sleeping, dp is on the fence, he loves it but can't wait until she is in her own room so we've compromised and are getting bunks and putting the double bottom in her room and the single at my mums until #2 wants it!

What I'm worried about is NOT getting much sleep, I worry that if our DD is put into her own bed she will continuously wake up, so used to having us, well me really to cuddle up to in the night. At the mo she sleeps right thru every night, if she does wake up she's back to sleep within 30secs after sensing me cuddle up to her.
I don't want to be having to wake up in the night to feed the newbie whilst in between having to run into DD room to get her back to sleep.
I'm sure it will work itself out. Oh and a bit more mummy and daddy time would be great too!! I'm surprised I'm even PG!!

We have 4 in the bed ... My 3;6 year and my five month old are both in our bed. Every now and then my 3 year old is on the single bed in our room, but most the time she sleeps in between me and DF, then our 5 month old sleeps on my side. I have the cot pushed up to the bed as well so I can put my 5 month old in there if I need to go to the toilet or anything during the night, and it doubles as a barrier... We have a queen sized bed and although I'd love a king it is fine.

My neighbours co-sleep their 2 kids and they have 2 queen sized beds side by side in their (big) bedroom. That way there is heaps of room for everyone. Hubby can have a bit of space to get a good nights sleep for work and she can move around to breastfeed their baby.

Wow having 2 queen-size beds together sounds like my kind of bed ... I think our room could just about fit it. But I bet I'd still be squashed between the 2 kids while DP got to sprawl luxuriously!
The double bunk sounds like a good idea in future too - I guess the kids might like sleeping together, since they'll be so used having someone to snuggle at night.

We have a king size bed and a king single pushed together. Loads of room for the 4 of us although the kids and I always end up cuddledinto the single bed lol.
We did sidecar the cot when ds was first born but it was a different height and awkward.
Once ds is a little older and not feeding at night so much, we'll set them up in a sibling bed , neither of them like to sleep alone :-)

Pudgy we had an issue with it being a different height but we were given 2 cots and got 2 mattresses and I found adding both mattresses and the cot on the lowest level made it the right height! I could just imagine DP sprawled out on one bed and me squished up with DD on another! She likes to sleep on top of me still!
