Hi all, we need a second car seat for DD I have a sunshine radian which is fantastic but we can't afford another one. DHs car is not really big enough for it either. Can anyone recommend a cheapish, good car seat that rear faces longer than 12kg? TIA

My parents wanted a carseat to take DD places and as I wanted her to rear-face with them too, I looked for a seat cheaper than our Radian. Ended up getting an evenflow one as - tribute I think is the model. It was under $300 and its WAY smaller than the Radian, its not as plush and comfy, but its safe and rear-faces till 16kg I think

Just remember that the kids often outgrow the seats in length before they hit the weight limit so look at how long the adjustement is for the harness as well as weight IYKWIM.

I was going to get that one from baby on the move, but they didn't have stock (often don't apparently) so they recommended the evenflow - there are definitely a couple of cheaper rear-facing options than the Radian (which is a fantastic - although large - seat).

Unfortunately the ERF seats are more expensive - but Radian's and Brios are the longest (at this stage I think) for RF, Coscos as someone mentioned are great too, and Truefits, Evenflo Tribute (they RF to 18kg)

PS The Tributes you can often pick up brand new on TM, as they are the seats Waitakere residents get as part of the "Carseats for Safety" scheme, really cheaply when you provide proof of a childs birth - we got one for DD through that, then picked up a second through TM, and now have them AND a Radian....

We have the Evenflo Triumph Advance LX which rear faces until 15.8kgs. In saying that it is quite a big seat so may not fit in the car.

Just a note - the Monteray doesn't rearface, it's a booster that just uses the seatbelt (no harness), so for ages 5+.

ETA Brio is another one that RF for longer, though they're pricey too.
