How do you stop biting.

Unfortunately big sister was the one who encouraged him to bite her arm, despite me repeatedly telling her not to. Now he's bitten her a good one on the face. No broken skin. But how do I stop him in case he trys it again.

She was on my knee when it happened & it happened really fast so swoop & scoop wouldn't have helped.

DS went thru a wee phase of biting. He got bitten at a work picnic and then 2 weeks later decided to do the same to 3 kids at DC. I was mortified! DC spent alot of one on one time with him talking about what he had done and why it wasn't nice and timed out him. He has never attempted it again at DC.

He never really tried it at home with me but did bite DH once who dumped him in his bedroom. He never tried it again.

I got awesome advice from arohanui - so you could PM her.

Consistency is the key really.

How old was he when he was biting? I don't think explanation will really work at 16 months old. I've said not nice & we don't bite.

DS bit me once on my thigh while I was feeding DD2. It hurt so bad and out of instinct I yelled so loud that he got a heck of a fright and never did it again. He was about 16 months, and also didnt really understand explanation.
All I yelled was OW!!!
Good luck, the biting stage is a pest!!

Tessa is going through this right now (well has been for the past monthish) she is so bad she actually draws blood (DS2 got a huge bite to the face )
Don't quite know what to do with her (she's only 14 months) other than saying no and putting her in her cot. Good old plunket suggested distraction when she goes to bite, tho its usually over just like that and most times its just done cos she can i guess.
So yeah i have no advice but will keep a lookout for some.

Cool, thanks guys. No biting today thank god, I was worried about if he was going to bit my care child.

Have shifted him away from his sister in the car as well.

Oh good I'm glad peanut linked to that thread, I was just about to come and do the same thing! That's great there was no biting yesterday -- yay! hopefully it was just a random thing The good thing is that your DD is older so you can get her on board too to help teach him that it's not ok and that it hurts.
