Ok, so I know it's unrealistic to expect a toddler to be a little quiet on command sometimes..and I'm not meaning whisper quiet...just not yelling and screeching.. but I need some ideas please...

Problem is that Alyssa will always turn up the volume when I'm either trying to feed Kayla, or put her to sleep. I have tried giving her something to do while I'm with Kayla, but she isn't interested unless I'm actively with her doing whatever activity..even reading to her is impossible while bf'ing as it's still not enough attention for her. She takes great pleasure in making as loud a noise as possible to get Kayla awake, or to turn around. She just loves her little sister which is great, but aaarrrrghhhh!

I'm not exactly trying to make everyone whisper and tip toe around, but am frustrated that Kayla is being woken up by Alyssa and ends up grumpy and tired.

So what's your secret?..Please share

Tricky stuff. First up, to a large extent Kayla will get used to the extra noise and you'll be able to stress a bit less. When it comes to feeding and things, you may need to tell Alyssa that she needs to be quiet while you are feeding, or you will take Kayla to your room with the door shut until she has finished. That will give her less attention for silly behaviour and she may well decide that's not so fun anymore.

When Kayla is asleep, can you shut her door and take A a couple of rooms away?

Thanks for the suggestion - it may end up being my only option. I find that if I actually ask or tell Alyssa to be quiet while I'm feeding Kayla she makes a point of being noisier!

Yeah, if I manage to get her to her room sleepy, without being jolted awake by Alyssa in the process I can shut the hallway doors and she sleeps ok from that point. Alyssa will actually follow me down the hallway to make as much noise as she can when she knows I'm about to put Kayla in her cot so I have had to close the doors behind me!

Oh I so know where you are coming from! I ask Dom to be quiet and he just yells QUIET and then makes the loudest SHHHHHHHH you have ever heard. I know he is trying to be good but it is sooooo frustrating! And he is just like Alyssa, he loves Isobelle but is to young to understand what be queit means. I've had to start shutting the door to Isobelle's room as I kept find him in there looking at here and blowing very loud kisses or jumping on the bed.
Sometimes when I say 'ssshhh use a little voice like mummy so you don't wake Isobelle up and we can have a lovely play together' he quietens down but not always.
On his particularly noisy days I have sometimes resorted to putting him in his cot with a few toys while I settle Isobelle for her sleep.
During feeding I often make sure I have a little pile of books on the couch, I sit Dom beside me, he holds the books and turns the pages while I read. I know it is not ideal but it makes him feel less ignored.

Oh yeah I remember that, on the plus side it makes number two used to noise and used to sleeping whenever they can.

We used to have a special box of cool things that only got used when I was feeding Caprece and when I stopped feeding it went back away. We changed the stuff around every few days and that seemed to keep Jack quiet for a wee bit.

sounds like she may just want to help........why dont you take her in the room with you let her give a toy or soemthing to baby so she knows its bedtime for baby and play creepy feet when you go out

I have brought some of those sticker books from the warehouse and when I am feeding I sit beside Oliver and help him to do the book. It is the only time we get it out and he really enjoys it and is very focused. It might not work but has been great for us. Good luck.

I so know how you feel, i'm going through that exact same thing with mikey at the moment. it's not so bad when i'm feeding her but when i'm trying to get her to sleep he'll keep racing in to "check on her" ie. wake her up lol.
i heard somewhere that if the baby's getting a feed then the older child gets a snack as well, maybe if alyssa is still in a highchair then put it next to you while you feed and she can have a piece of fruit or something so she feels involved.
