Wow weird question LOL! I thumb sucked for 12yrs (yep every night and more) and my tongue sits on the roof of my mouth. But I have a small mouth so it wouldn't be able to go 'down' at all. But when my mouth is closed I have a little suction thing going on to pull my tongue completely up in the middle if that makes any sense at all!! My tongue rests at the top of my mouth I think I did suck my thumb but it was just occasional not all the time. I also had braces on my top teeth I thank my parents for spending that money on them I just one tooth that was way out compared to the rest of my teeth so not as bad as some people only had them on for about 6 months I think. Konagirl I hear you on the external braces (oh the shame), I had them, but only wore them at night! Then after I got my braces off I had a retainer for two years!

I didn't have braces - I had a 'tounge crib' - ok sounds weird but it is cemented onto back teeth and hangs down from roof of mouth - and basically stopped my tounge from pushing top teeth out anymore (I was a thumb sucker and tounge sat on roof of mouth becaue of it and was pushing teeth out).

Recently I have had a huge amount of work done on my teeth (costing me $5K plus), as my teeth were cracked, chipped, worn down from grinding (I used to grind my front teeth when stress - which in old job was all the time), one was almost black - they were so aweful I wouldn't even smile properly. I can't begin to tell you how much the money was worth it!!!! And I would spend the same money - or even more, and go through the same pain again and again if I had too (although I better blimmin not have to!!!), I say go for it girl!!!!! I had braces too, and yep, it's up there with the worst pain in my life . I can still feel the pain after having my wires changed, and I used to pray and pray before each orthodontist appointment that he wouldn't want to change the wires but he almost always did, sadist!
I had two top teeth removed too so I only have 12 teeth up top.

Totally worth it and this is coming from someone who had an EXTERNAL RETAINER. FOR 18 MONTHS.(Like what the geek from Pretty in Pink had, it went from my 2nd molars, out my mouth and then a stretch band around my neck. I'm not kidding). I love my smile now and it's weird seeing old photos of me with an overbite and crossed over teeth. It was agony for the first 6 weeks or so two as I could feel the boney plates of my face being forced to move.

I had a bad overbite and had braces when I was about 15. Most horrible time of my life. Hurt like hell. Still worth it though as now I actually smile! I had extensive teeth straitening and my overbite corrected as a child, my teeth were terrible. The orthodontist started my first braces at around standard 3 and I finally got them off in fifth form! I totally recommend it and I am so thankful to my parents for investing the money (around $3.5k back then) to get them fixed!

People comment on how perfect my teeth are all the time, and I must admit, they are absolutely perfect!

Worth every single dollar in my opinion and so worth the pain, I was in absolute agony, but it certainly has been well worth it overall!!

I can show you before and after pics if you like? My BIL has recently had that done; 6months braces on the bottom and 12months for the top braces. It took about 18 months and I have a wire retainer behind my teeth still (8-9 yrs on!). I had to have braces on the top and bottom. I had my overbite corrected when I was a teen (mine was 1.4cm out). It does make your mouth area look better but it's not that drastic, but maybe that's cause it takes ages to correct..

I had 2 premolars removed and then had braces to pull the other teeth back to correct the overbite. Im trying to create a 'new me' mini makeover type thing and have been thinking... I have a huge overbite (I think thats what its called) Im used to it so cant imagine how it would look without it but does it look heaps better if they are fixed? I guess what im trying to ask if would it be worth spending the money to get it fixed or is it not that drastic a change in looks.
