I do that with Summer, she lets me brush her teeth first quickly (make sure I get it all) and then I give her the tooth brush and she copies my movements.
I've also found getting her to say 'aaagghhhh' and open her mouth and then cheese (smiling with teeth bared) helps me get to her little toothies better

We have two toothbrushes for Jayden one that he uses and bascially just chews on and on thast we use to brush his teeth at the same time. We are getting electric ones to put in their stocking for xmas though. Just to make it more fun.

I mean in NZ there are cases of bad teeth, but not in the amounts of people.....people with rows of teeth like sharks, decayed teeth at three!!!! Missing teeth in early twenties. I was considering getting jake fluoride tablets if we stayed here longer

    Author: Maya
Subject: 886
Posted: 30 August 2005 at 10:41pm

Maya was given an electric toothbrush last xmas (she was about 20mths) and she loves it, it is a real novelty. It says on it for ages 3+ but our dental nurse said its fine, anything to encourage brushing. Maya is also a bit OCD about toothpaste, will only use the Macleans Milk Teeth not the Colgate Junior stuff. I figured that wasn't a battle worth fighting so I chucked the Colgate and stocked up on the Macleans. And I let her put the toothpaste on and brush for a minute or two before I get in there and give them a proper clean.
Oh, and on a similar subject, I read in the paper here in Sydney this morning that kids are having a higher rate of tooth decay now than a few years ago, partly because of lollies, soft drink etc. but also because we tend to give them bottled or filtered water which doesn't have fluoride instead of tap water which does. I found this interesting - must admit I give Maya filtered water coz I drink it and it tastes better, but am having second thoughts now. Guess the good old tap stuff is better!

Paris used to be great with brushing, until she got top teeth. i can get the side ones, back ones front ones, but nup, no way can i get the top ones, she closes her little lip down over them. try letting her do it, also try getting her to put her head back and look at something.. we do paris's teeth when she's in the bath. also, try getting her to repeat things after you if she does that... words like silly, monkey, anything with an eeee sound on the end will make her lip move enough for you to get to her top teeth. but definately try lettin gher use the toothbrush herself first and again after you have brushed her teeth for her, so that she learns not to associate it with a battle.
