Nat said to just let him know if you want the phone number of an officer in your area and he'll find it for you. PM me your area and I'll pass it on.

I found it really interesting how they paid my PPL though - I got something like 5 weeks worth as a lump sum this week, which is really only my first week off. Then I get paid fortnightly for June and July, with the last pauyment in August - so even though I get the 14 weeks, becasue of the way they paid the lump sum it will be over much sooner than 14 weeks. i don't know why they did it that way either?

Mind you as a secondary teacher you probably lose some of your classes earlier so won't have such a tough schedule at the end (because I was exhausted even working 4 days a week for 4 weeks this term!)

Looks like you have good timing though!

I think in teaching you may need to give a little more than 4 weeks notice, I think even to leave you need to give a terms notice. it is good to sort out with your employer if you are leaving mid term in advance. But my end date was pretty much a floating one. I filled out my side of the forms relatively early on, my boss kept them till my end date was confirmed, which was 2 weeks before I left (had enough so left about 10 days earlier than I had said I would).

It really was a week turn around between seding the forms and getting the money sorted, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

So am guessing that you can only send teh government forms away once you know when you are taking leave from?

You need to complete the PPL form then hand to the principal to complete for the government one prior to going on leave. You need to hand in your birth certificate once you have it for the teaching one.

I was pleased that the IRD processed the PPL really fast - pretty much less than a week after they recieved the forms they had notified me of my entitlements and when I would recieve those payments.

We get 6 weeks full pay on producing the birth certificate. This does not affect the 14 weeks paid maternity leave, though I heard it get taxed at a secondary rate. There is a time limit to how long after baby is born to when you can apply for but can' remember how long it is. I am going to try do after the 14 weeks is finished, as I am taking 7 weeks off before baby is due. All you do is take the birth certificate to your principal to be signed and they send to payroll (this is what the NZEI field rep told me).
