I'm not getting it next semester as I don't want it to impact on our family assistance (or whatever they call it now) payments as we get quite a bit from them but it's something I might look at getting next year.




i hate student loans all my recent dealings with them have been bad bad bad.

however a student allowance doesnt affect your working for families stuff, its only your earnings ( from work 20hrs if your a solo parent or 30hrs between you if your a coupple)

What about looking at ESOl tutoring - this starts younger and is pretty good money. OK I was told that by a person at SL so long as you are studying fulltime (to SL by EFT's) and you have "dependants" you should be able to get an allowance It was only $70 I was getting on the allowance but still $70 is better than nothing. Also the budget that came out yesterday had some more stuff in it about helping people to get allowances.

Sorry Becks but I don't think you're right about your partners income having no impact on a student allowance. A friend of mine looked into it, and while the threshold may have been a bit higher, her DF's income still counted.

Also, it depends how much study you are doing as to your entitlement for WFF subsidies/tax credits. If you go on to the online calculator, it says for some aspects that if you're a student, you're not entitled. I assume that's probably full time student I guess. I'm lucky that my 'real job' is something I can fit in around my family. I started off as a freelancer working from home when Maya was smaller and I still do a wee bit of freelance stuff, but mostly I work here at OHbaby!
I love my job, it's relevant to where I am in my life at the moment with young kids, it means I can work when the kids are asleep etc. and it's given me the opportunity to meet so many other mums with babies/kids similar ages to mine. That is a really good one though you would want to do your research and make sure you're not copying other people's designs or if you are using another design make sure you are licensed.

Ooo I'm definitely going to be watching this thread.

I would love to know what kind of jobs we can do as SAHMs. I have racked my brains but I can never think of anything that I would be able to do.

I've done a years Early Childhood Studies, so could do something along those lines, maybe home-based childcare for one other child during the week.

Hi,
Im just thinking ahead to after I have the baby and would love to know what sort of jobs SAHMs do for extra money. I would ideally like to have something lined up as I am currently a student and wont be able to save for when the baby comes. I will have a Marketing degree so hopefully that will help me find something suitable. We are struggling now on one income and will continue to struggle if I dont find some work that I can do at home when the bubba is born. What does everone else do and if you dont mind it would be nice to know what sort of money you can get for particular jobs?
