morning ladies BP issues in pregnancy - don't sound too good whether it's too high or too low..

By what everyone has said -it looks like after the 30th week & onwards it seems to become a problem.. hmm.. hope mine stays down enough to not warrant an early delivery - hope that my little man is fully cooked before he needs to come out - at least! ..fingers crossed.. thanks for the info ladies & thanks for starting the post kell

I'm the oppersite, mine goes down during pregnancy, yesterday it was just 90/60 ...how strange is that. With my first two, mine didn't start creeping up until I reached the 35wk mark, I was monitored quite closely and with my son I ended up being induced. My bp came back to normal pretty much straight away too.

With my daughter I had really high blood pressure, but they didn't really do anything about it, from memory it didn't start creeping up till I was 39wks. A week later she was born.

I didn't really have any definite signs, just felt really tired, with my son, I had swelling.

Mine only goes up when im pregnant, so I guess im kinda of lucky....
Had my appointment today and it was 160/100 they wanted to admit but I said unless its to take him out dont bother!! Ive been through all the admits before and they are a waste of time. Kellz this is interesting to me because I have high bp - just curious to know if you had signs of or have high bp before you fell pregnant?  I did & was on medication for years but doc took me off to trial how I would go without medication in my 4th month.  He told me in the 2nd trimester it was a good sign that my bp had gone down & that bp is normally lower during this stage.

My BP still averages 130/90 but this is much better than what it was before I fell pregnant.. Normally it would read 180/110 which I was told was something they needed to keep an eye on.

In the last trimester I was told that BP often goes back to pre -pregnancy levels - I hope mine doesn't but this is why I wanted to know if this happened to any of you? or is it just due to pregnancy that it has become an issue?

ooh oooh pick me! Although what I am going to write will look like I've copied Mazzy's!

Mine started creeping up around 30 weeks. The first time I saw my new midwife it was 140/100. I was feeling quite sick that day, but had no other symptoms like blurry vision or headaches, just a wee bit of nausea. She wasn't happy with it so came around to my house the next day and re-checked it. It was 116/88 which still wasn't low enough for her, so she sent me for bloods. They came back fine.

Next time I saw her it was 140/90. Sent for bloods, came back fine

Next time it was 120/92. Sent for bloods, came back fine

Next time it was 110/70 (Her back-up was on that day and it was a 9:30AM appointment instead of my usual 2:30PM one) I don't know if this had anything to do with it being so good. So no bloods YAY.

Next time was 130/92, usual midwife again, sent for bloods, came back fine.

Wednesday this week it was 130/98. She sent me for bloods and then said she would come around and check on me the next day. Bloods were fine, the next day it was 110/92.

She is not medicating me, just keeping an eye on me and sending me for bloods every week. I am just told to take it real easy and that I will not go past 40 weeks as I'll be induced at the end of 39 weeks.

Well, actually I won't make it that far because my little monster has turned footling/kneeling breech and will be evicted by c-section early next week. My high BP means as soon as I have an appointment with the hospital, they will do it soon after! YAY.

But yeah, I never had any other signs or symptoms, no swelling, no headaches, just high BP. She said if it ever went close to 160/100 I would be admitted to hospital straight away.

I found it really annoying that I was sent for so many blood tests only to have them come back absolutely fine. I don't feel unwell at all. And the bruises from the blood tests don't heal within a week and it hurts when the needle goes back in them!!

at least your OB isnt quick to just drug you up on anything, mixing meds can get tricky esp when pregs.
hope your BP goes down for you.
Hope bubs doesnt need to get an eviction notice even earlier than planned.
looking after a toddler while pregs can be challenging eh

Im not doing anything different this time except have a toddler to look after!

Mine has crept up over the last few weeks, and im already on meds for OC so they dont want to muck with BP meds on top of that, Im under the high risk team at palmy hosp so im in there x2 a week. Im hoping tomorrow is better than mondays reading of 140/100, because the OB said as soon as she needs to muck with meds she is "bailing out" and taking bubs out.

How high did yours get before you were put in hospital, put on bed rest, medicated, induced?  About 160/105 and I was medicated, and bed rested in hospital. 1 weeks later is was up again different specialist and he made ways to induce me

How many high readings did you have before the above happend? i.e did you have high BP for say 2 weeks then they induced or medicated you?  BP slowly rised and then hit high to go to the day unit it was there that they decided to admit me. The next week it was rising while I was resting at the day unit and then I was induced 2 days later other things as well.

Did it return to normal after the birth?  Yep almost an instant thing something i'm glad for as I hated the BP pills.

Did you have signs it was high? Yeah the dizziness.

This is my second pregnancy with it, did you have it with your other pregnancies too Yep I had it with Andrew and again with Josh. Both times it lead to pre eclampsia.

I get my maternity notes back this weekend i'll have a detailed look for you and PM to what they did as it is 2 different specialist and 2 different things they did.

I can't remember exact numbers but midwife put me on bed rest in the afternoons at about 35 weeks when it was around 140/85. Got admitted to hospital at 37 weeks straight from a midwife appointment where it was 160/96. Medicated after three days in hospital when it peaked at 185/113. Induced two days later.

Had slightly high BP at 30 weeks so midwife was keeping an eye on it. Was on bed rest for probably 10 days before being admitted, in hospital for three days before being medicated and was induced two days after being medicated. They originally planned to induce five days after I was medicated, I was all booked in, but I had a few more peaks so they changed their minds and did an 'emergency induction' on the weekend.

Eventually. Straight after I was still having high readings and I was medicated for four months afterwards. It is now absolutely fine.

I felt completely fine. That's what was so frustrating. And why I didn't really listen to the midwife about bed rest, which was stupid of me. The day before I was admitted to hospital I spent all morning vacumning our carpets with the rug doctor, including lifting it in and out of my car a couple of times. I honestly believe that had an impact on my BP.

It was my first, and I'm hoping not to have it or at least minimise it as much as possible with my next one, whenver that is. My mum was induced with both me and my brother for the same reason so I guess it is inevitable.
