I'm working on an article on SPD for OHbaby! atm, my poor boss has it bad

I had it so bad with Maya that I ended up on crutches. Didn't get it anywhere near as bad with the gremlins which surprised me given I was much bigger.

Things that help: lying on your side with a pillow between your knees, warm baths, support belts or tubigrips from the physio, and a plastic bag on the seat of the car to enable you to slide in and out more easily.

Things that don't help: Sitting for long periods of time, sitting with your legs apart, squatting, any position which opens up your pelvic joint.

It is really important to talk to your midwife about it because if you have it, it can affect the way you birth. I wasn't allowed to squat to deliver Maya because of the risk of permanent damage to the joints.

Like Maree said, the pain usually subsides post birth, altho I had a few issues with my lower back that were indirectly related to the SPD when Maya was 15 mths. Well Im not surprised to see this post after being shocked at your baby belly. It  is def one hell of a baby belly Its amazing the size of it, but its def all baby. Maybe James will be bigger than Hals You and your baby belly are just glowing at the moment. I hope the rest of your preg is a bit more comfortable for you

I had this with the latest baby....it got so bad that I ended up sleeping in a reclining chair for months. It was okay when I kept moving around, but you can't really do that and sleep at the same time. Stairs became impossible. Getting in and out of the car nasty. There wasn't anything that could be done for mine, but a friend that had the same thing said that her osteopath made a HUGE difference. I had a belly belt with Haleigh from the physio from about 30wks but wasn't for anything like this my back-up just gave me one because of fluid retention and it really helped, was great in labour to, and excellant for walking and after the birth, I loved my belly belt.

No worries :) It is diff something to tell the m/w, she can refer you to a physio, who in my opinion cant do much lol as they say you need to actually stabilise your pelvis not mobilise it, so that cuts out alot. And they will fit you with a belly belt, this gives me some relief if im going to walk to playcentre or stand for a while. You poor thing - That sounds really painful..  I get bad pain when I bend down for any period of time or crouch to pick something up or do something. Not looking forward to what your experiencing..

Oh i posted a similar thread a few weeks ago because this pain was driving me nutts!!! mine seems to be getting worse too and yup moving around in bed and getting out of bed is excruciating!!! . yep I know exactly how you feel, the presure and the pain of those nasty ligaments streching brings tears to my eyes some times
I find having a nice relaxing bath helps a bit
