Contractions were the worst for me, they were so close together for almost the whole labour I wasn't getting any breaks. The pushing was a huge relief and I didn't feel anything when DD crowned, so I guess it is different for everyone. I'd take more pushing over contractions any day!

I tore badly, and really the worst for me was the stitching up afterwards. Yep, the contractions were painful, and pushing was difficult (I was apparently minutes away from having an assisted delivery - forceps or ventouse), but at least they had a purpose!
My tears were a little worse than "standard" though, I guess - was stitched up in the delivery suite for over an hour before they decided I had to have general anesthetic and go down to surgery for them to finish off (another hour of stitching, I believe).

But, hey, it was only about a week ago, and I'm already doing pretty well. Hi there, the lost painful part of labour/birth for me was one the crowning and then when my daughters head was coming out she turned and tore me and felt every tear!!

i can't really comment on this after having 2 c/s babies....but.....alot of you are saying the contractions were painful, to me, they weren't. i guess i am one of the lucky ones that had an easy labour, which didn't end up the way i wanted.
the only thing you can really count on in childbirth is.....it will eventually be over and won't last forever

i am sad that i will never be going through it again and to all the upcoming new mummies......be as relaxed as you can be and also be prepared for things to not go as you planned

Well if there's any advice I can give your newbies, it would be (as dumb as it sounds), read into all the options, put your preferred one into your birth plan with your mw, but at least if any surprises come you know what you're talking about. Then just let it all rest because there's nothing you can do about it, talk your concerns over with your mw (especially in labour), and you'll come through. contractions are the worst the rest went so fast.

i hated the whole procedure, contractions were the most painful thing id experienced but it was also the fear of not having any control over them, then the crowning was definetly not a pleasent experience but at least it was over quicker than the contractions.
I also found it rather (as in very very) sore when the midwife gave me an injection in my vagina to numb it before sewing, i would have jumped off the bed but the sneaky midwife had given me caitlyn to hold ....crafty b*tch

haleighsmum, just because you had forcepts does not mean you didn't birth your baby....I too had to end up with forcepts after 3 hours of pushing DD just was stuck and we needed a little bit of extra help.

I agree the crowning was not painful for me last time, think I was sooo relieved that the baby was actually coming out at last after throwing up for the past 5 hours.

With Maya the contractions were awful, mostly coz I had 36 hours of latent labour (contractions every 5-7 minutes ) before they kick started it with synto, I felt very out of control, the contractions were unbearable and I remember the crowning was the absolute worst part.

With the gremlins, I can honestly say I don't think it hurt at all. I am gonna jump on in here to say that the BIRTH is only *however many* hours long, if you are lucky (like me?!) the whole thing will last several hours, or a couple of days? The contractions were the worse for me, but I never got to birth HAleigh as hard as I tried she ended up forceps.
So I had the lovely epidural disguising any pain after that.

I have to add, tearing sounds a lot worse than it is. With Jake I tore and had three stitches, with Taine I grazed slightly. I just wanted to say on a positive note, having never been through birth or labour myself (yet), most of you lovely ladies go back for a second, third and even fourth time so I figure as bad as labour might be, you all go back time and time again so it MUST be worth it in the end, right !!

I find the contractions hard, taxing emotionally with the end seeming like so far away, but the crowning has been the worst part for me by far - and I only felt that part once! Apparently I have a long perineum and that makes my crowning time rather long - not one of these "over in two pushes" ladies! For a minute I was afraid I would tear forwards but my mw reassured me and I was ok (tore elsewhere but I didn't feel that).

You asked what was worse aside from contractions... but labour/birth is: contractions, pushing, crowning, stitches if necessary. Anyway, why are you asking this? Hmmmm..... it's been more than 5 years since I last gave birth so I've 'forgotten' what hurts most, so this is interesting to read!! I'm preparing to do it all over again in about 9 weeks

I would say crowning was probably the most painful part but like others have said once you get to that stage you really want it outta there & it's over pretty quickly!

The contractions were the worst for me too. Like Anna said it's the unknowing of how long, how more pain full they will be I also had a reasonably fast labor. I know you said apart from contraction, but I found that the worst part for 2 reasons:
1. I didn't know how long it was going to go on for
2. They were so intense (I had a VERY quick labout so didn't have any breaks in my contractions.)
