I think I know Dr Sharma as I had a Dr Sharma in Palmy and he left to go to AK. I had a midwife as LMC and the OB as cover, so my own m/w and her partner looked after me while I was in labour. The OB came at the very beginning before I was induced and did a portable scan, checked the babies heartrates on the CTG, explained to me some possible scenarios (if one/both babies got distressed, stuck, turned around etc.) and then left me with the midwives who got the induction started.
My midwife called him to come back towards the end of the pushing stage (he was still at the hospital the whole time) and he came back and checked the girls heartrates etc. He let the midwife deliver Sienna, then checked Mercedes presentation, then let the midwife deliver Mercedes. Then he delivered the placenta and gave me a stitch while the two midwives and the paediatrician weighed/measured the girls.
And I haven't seen him since. Hey thanks so much ladies for your wonderful advice & referrals

Just wanted to know where you all gave birth & when & if at what stage the obstetrician is there.. Does he attend at any stage? Also, how long is it before you saw him both before & after the birth? Did everyone who had a Obstetrician also have a team of midwifes attached to him other than the hospitals.. I am still researching my options with these lovely Doctors..

Sorry about all these questions.. I just want to make the right choice. I also want to be clear about what I want when I phone them.

I'm with Neil Pattison (he does work out of Birthcare in Parnell) and he's fantastic, just so reassuring and kind. You never feel rushed or unimportant in appointments with him which is nice, and when he says call anytime, he means anytime - my friend who was also with him called him at all hours of the night and day if she was having a panic, and she said he was just as nice at 1am as at 10am. I haven't done that to the poor man yet though!

I have been seeing the high risk team at Auckland Hospital but as you said Bombshell I don't have one person I can see continually..

I am looking into private options now so that I feel more reassured about the birth - especially since it is my first!

I have just spoken to Auckland Obstetric Centre but trying to make sure to shop around

Don't you have the High Risk team taking care of you?? You should have been referred to them if you are high risk! I know quite a few people who have used the team at Auckland Obsteric Centre (www.obstetrics.co.nz  ) and they are apparently brilliant! I have heard especially good things about Paul McPherson and Lynda Batchelor.

I have also heard very very good things about Neil Pattison, he works out of the Birthcare Building I think.

You could PM Licken as she is using Neil...I think.
