it effects my eye sight, I notice when Im pregnant I have to wear my reading glasses more often than just reading.

My eyes definitely got worse when I was preggers with Joey but wnet back to normal after he arrived... Hey NZpiper, I read somewhere that the shape of the cornea can change in pregnancy too, is that right??? I'm a bit hopeful because I have astigmatism in both eyes so I know it would be a longshot but thought that if I was REALLY lucky, may improve it a bit!!

Yep I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek It would be nice if things happened that quickly! My labours are quite long, 2nd stage fast, crowning long again But... My long distance vision has always been ever so slightly a lil bad. But it's always been that way, never enough for glasses or anything. Right now I'd say I wouldn't pass an eye test where as I've always passed easily in the past. Easiest way to describe it is that I can't read subtitles on the tv anymore when sitting on the couch (and only since getting preggers). And I passed an eye test about 7 months back when I had to have one done for work.

I'm gonna wait til after bubs is born and see if it improves. hi there, I can probably help as I am an optometrist. Some women do get a change in prescription whilst pregnant and unfortunately you cant predict it or whether it will change back once bubs is born. It is usually due to the lens inside your eye swelling a little. this can also happen in diabetes so best to make sure that is all ok as well.

If the vision is not too much of a prob, I would try and hold off till after bubs arrives. If it isa big prob, or you break your glasses you dont really have much choice but to bite the bullet and keep everything crossed it will be stable afterwards

As for contact lenses, hormones screw up your tear film and you may find contacts uncomfortable. If your contacts arent bothering you, there is no reason why you cant wear them. But not during labour as you really dont want anything else to annoy you then. The same can happen with certain contraceptive pills or HRT or just natural changes we women get from time to time. Hormones have so much to answer for.

By the way, if you do get your eyes tested, your optom might be able to give you an idea if your prescription change seems normal (eg, you have been changing by a little amount every year or so and this fits). I know they say that you may have to stop wearing contacts when you're preg, but not sure of the reason, so I guess your vision could be affected?

I might call them today and just ask cause I'd hate to waste money on a consult etc and then have it turn out that later on my eyes go back to normal. Yep it does, the back of your eye stretches. It will change all through the pg and just after, and also any time you are badly sick ie flu or worse.... one of those things I don't really know if it's worth getting re-tested until the end of the pg unless you're having a lot of trouble. I believe that it does affect your eyes somewhat. My litle "helper" broke my glasses in november, so I had to get new glasses, but they wouldn't renew my contact prescription, and won't do so for another month or so yet. I was wondering - does pregnancy or the hormones that your body is going nuts producing effect your eyesight at all?

Since getting preggers my eyesight has progressively got slightly worse and worse which has really irritated me something fierce tonight - I'm tempted to go get an eyesight test (even though I only had one 7 months ago and it was fine) but I don't wanna waste that money either
