The nurse asked me what drugs i was going to take for the cycle - HELLO arent' they supposed to tell me!!! Anyway - hopefully i've picked up enough from the doctor's consultations and these chat boards are great for information. Now's it just a waiting game to see what the blood tests say i guess...

    Author: ginger
Subject: 5808
Posted: 22 February 2007 at 8:36am

We're going private - the wait for public was a bit rough (3-4 months + just to get an appointment with the specialist!) so I just made an appointment, and we'll pay for treatment ourselves. Unless we need IVF, then we'll cross back to the public system to get the two freebies!

The way we see it - if this TTC lark had worked, we wouldn't have my income, and wouldn't have had it for a while (I was/am intending to be a SAHM), so paying for it isn't so bad really for us. We can afford to give up some things and pay for the treatment. We're really lucky.

To be honest, I'm not really so worried about having both PCOS and endo, apart from the obvious implications! I didn't know about the PCOS until recently, and I don't have any of the major symptoms (hence why I got such a shock when I found out! I never expected it!) ...all I really have is pain with the cysts growing and bursting. And the endo has been removed and I *finally* have healed after the surgery - I have had no pain at all right through this month, including when AF arrived!! Wooppee!!! It only took 6 months ....

PLus, I know what I'm dealing with - we're not up against an unknown with fertility treatment.

How do they do an internal scan? Apparently all my stuff was done while I was out to it! I had all sorts done while I was out to it ...although Al was really amused at the look on my face when I read in my report that there was an anal probe involved!! B*stard! He didn't care at all that I felt retrospectively violated!!

DH has been tested and is fine. I have been poked and proded and sucked of blood for them to discover basically nothing!!! All they know is that most months on my own i don't ovulate but they have no idea why.....Treatment we have had so far is 3 months clomophine - which didn't work, then 8 months clomphine, and trigger injections which worked (ie. i ovulated) but still no BFP..

Cost wise for IUI they told me about from about $700 - $900 per month depending on what they need to do (i'm assuming mine will be at the high end as i will need the trigger injections which are quite expensive!!).

Good luck with your appointment!!!

Edited by JB

We have been TTC for 3yrs, 1 1/2yrs with fertility clinic. Last appointment they suggested we try IUI if the last lot of treatment hadn't worked (which it hasn't ) so we have our next appointment next week and assuming all the blood tests are acceptable they should let us start IUI. I have the brochures but just wanted some feedback from anyone who has been/going through it.....
Next step after that is IVF - but they suggested trying IUI for 3 or 4 months first.

Any info/feeback is welcome

Edited by JB
