I had that too, just about pulled me right off the bed, my Mum even started crying (she came to the birth of Lauren too). I NEVER want that again, the m/w even offered me trauma councelling, but I just talked it through with her and have now put it out of mind. Something I prefer not to remember really!!

Ella is 4 wks old on Tues and I'm only just 95% better now....so do give yourself plenty of time to heal. I thought I'd be better after about a week but its been a long road to recovery and I still get achy (down low) after standing for too long (thank goodness for panadol!!!). Didn't get out walking till 3 wks after her birth.....but as everyone says...it was totally all worth it :)

Thanks so much for your well wishes...

Lochlan was born at 12:36am 3/11/07 weighing 8lb12oz

As it turned out I wasn't in labour when my waters broke and or little man went into distress (very scary) My partner rushed me to the hosp at 11:15am as my contractions were only 2mins apart and lasting 1min plus once there I was given an internal and was only 2cm dilated, I was also gushing anatomic fluid, meconium and blood so was put on a hydrating drip, and given gas (which ran out in an hour), my labour was very drawn out and ended up being stuck in bed for 13hrs straight pushing for 2hrs and achieved nothing, so bubs was born with ventouse and forceps the doc also had to cut me.

So I am one very sore but VERY happy mummy hehehe

Have been babbling in the November thread since it won't be an October baby as close as it came (I swear some of those prelabour BHs were gonna spit the kid out!). Am really surprised after all the niggles and gripey pains and very strong BHs since Saturday that I am still in one piece!

Midwife gave me a heap of stuff to take yesterday which I did that she reckons should tip all that stuff over into labour by tomorrow, here's hoping! She even said "see you Friday night" when she left yesterday hehe! If it doesn't work I'll go to the health shop and get some caulophyllum liquid on Saturday morning, she said she'd give me repeat doses of the tablets on Tuesday (though she did say she reckoned that appointment will be a postnatal one!). She gave me a range of stuff like pulsatilla, caulophyllum, blue and black cohosh etc which my homeopath would be horrified at but surely one will hit the spot!

She also said she thinks baby is getting stuck on my pubic bone So we are doing a Pink Kit exercise to help with that. It's not surprising though I thought I'd have issues round the other side of my pelvis as I've had a previous tailbone injury.

So here's hoping that on Saturday DH can post some baby pics for you all to see even if it's not an October baby!!

I'm going gooey at above pics of Ella, mine needs to hurry up!!!

No sore nipples, it helps with your let down and it makes feeding so much quicker. They are a godsend for the 2am feed when all I want to do is feed as quick as possible and get back to bed!

They are not for long term use, and I try not to use them everytime, but when the going gets tough, they certainly get a work out!

TMI here, but I have quite large nipples and my m/w got me the small size nipple shields for me and they fit perfectly and very snug (just in case your now wondering what size to get)!

Pop the nipple shield on, sqeeze a bit of milk into the nipple peice so baby can taste the milk and they latch on straight away with no pain at all!!

Whatever to keep them happy is my theory. I just monitor its use and its only for the day time, at night I make her self settle and seems to work so far! My m/w actually recommended it to keep me sane when the going gets tough, she said in the ideal world no you don't want to use it, but not everything goes 100% to plan so don't be yourself up about it!

I tried using nipple shields today on my m/w recommendation as I have one sore nipple and I cannot get Lauren to latch properly. Those things are brilliant!! She latched on nicely and got a whole feed from the breast I find awkward!! IF anyone is having latching problems I TOTALLY recommend giving them a go!

Regarding nipple confusion, here is what Lauren can drink from and so far so good! I have feed her via, syringe, a little plastic cup, various teats on various bottles and on the breast, shes showing no signs of confusion, if it smells good and shes hungry she latches onto anything!! So I agree with Sarah Beth that nipple confusion is not quite true!!

So, it seems you just have to go with your gut - there is no right or wrong way to do things, just what you think is best. And as for nipple confusion, I'm with Sarah Beth - I think its a crock. Bella had dummy, breast and bottle right from the start and she is still breastfeeding without any 'confusion'!! And will still take a bottle if I so wish to feed her this way and still loves her dummy, and she is 3 months old! Makes me angry when MW's push their opinions on to first-time Mum's - they should know that a sleep-deprived, confused Mum is only going to bash herself up for thinking she is doing the wrong thing , so take heart in the fact that you know your bubs better than anyone and will only do what is best by them in the end, no matter what you decide!! I dunno what your midwife is on about as we often use dummies to pacify premature babies so there's no such thing as too young! So you can add my professional nursing opinion in there too Salifer! (I just wish I had nursing opinions on babies BEFORE they come out then I wouldn't have to wait til after birth to know what is what hehe!)

I have those Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles in case hubby needs to feed baby EBM. Apparently they are very close to a natural nipple so less chance of "nipple confusion" .... some midwives really brass me off .... when I taught my 1st year nursing students about infant care and feeding there were so many of them already with children that had beaten themselves up and been made to cry by midwives because they just couldn't breastfeed and had to go to EBM or formula. Look out if I have issues and any midwives try that with me!!!!

Don't feel bad about giving Lauren a bottle. I ended up having to put Alex on formula from 4 weeks, and I felt so so guilty about it for weeks (make that months). But in the end I realised he was a healthy, happy little boy, and didn't hurt him at all. Whats best for mum is best for baby sometimes!! Plus she is still getting exactly the same as she would if she was on the breast!! Hope you feel better soon. I suffered mild PND for a few months when Alex was about 4 months old, and its really horrible. Hopefully those hormones will settle down, and will feel normal again soon. As for your milk supply, I guess it's better to have too much than too little, and it will settle down. Your body just needs to work out how much it needs to make. happy thoughts for you today!!

Man I have suffered the worst baby blues and have had to go on a postnatal supplement. I have had a good few days the last couple but feel teary again this morning. I just gave Lauren a bottle EBM as I am feeling so drained and my left nipple is so sore I just couldn't bring myself to breastfeed. She takes either the bottle or breast really well, so I hope I am doing the right thing, but sometimes I just need to give my nipples a break! This is TMI, but last night I leaked all through the bed, the mattress is sopping wet. I have so much milk it is ridiculous, it just pours out everywhere. My Mum had the same when she had me apparently, she said it does get under control, but I can't go anywhere at the moment as I just constantly leak!!

I explained that a normal cervix feels like the tip of your nose and said see if it's softer than that.

His description was that there was something big and hard with something soft and squishy in front of it. I couldn't even feel him touching it so it must be pretty effaced (usually cervical things are uncomfy - think of smears!). So yay, one soft cervix with a head behind it. So all this silliness isn't all in vain.

Now I just need to dilate!

She wakes up, nappy change, feed, cuddles and burping and then back to bed! The 2-3am feed, shes up nappy change, feed, straight back down and straight back to sleep! She had a cranky period this morning between the 6am and 9am feed where she didn't go back to sleep, but I just laid her on my tummy in bed and she laid there quite happily, not crying, just looking around. We should try and catch up in the next few weeks, maybe at someones house so we won't be embarassed if we have to flop out the boobie! We will all be in the same boat!

I am fully bottle feeding at the moment. I express at every feed time for 10-15 minutes. I have a double breast pump and can get 120mls off in 15mins at the moment which is more than adequate. She takes between 60 - 90mls per feed at the moment.

M/w is coming over today to weigh her as she lost too much weight this week which is not ideal, so she's just monitoring her. She lost so much weight as I didn't know she was getting bugger all from me when shes on the breast. Its not that I don't have the milk supply, she just goes to sleep and can't be bothered sucking!!

Man my boobs are massive bazookers, sorry for TMI, but they are friggin massive and so damn heavy!!
I am sick of people asking me questions like "did it hurt?"....when I have nothing to compare it against.... trust me though the pain and discomfort is all worth it and forgotten so quickly.

Salifer - my stitches are pretty much healed now, I have been taking mega doses of arnica spray though, might be worth a try to help them heal quicker!

Peachy - DH calls me Daisy everytime I express, but we are trying to avoid giving him the bottle completely, so I am only really expressing to try and increase my milk flow. And lying down whilst making the pain seem more bearable, and allowed for more rest, also (in hindsight) slowed things downs.

The bad news is that despite being 99% confident of my LMP, our first scan suggested a EDD of 15 October - and thats the day Blair arrived. I know it can be frustrating when it feels like all you are doing is sitting around waiting for bubs to arrive - believe you me I had 5 days in hospital pretty much doing that - and finishing 2 1/2 books!

Bel - I also had plans to use a local birth centre and that fell thru with the BP, we were lucky enough to have our backup MW with us - who DH had never met prior. I felt pretty gutted that what was our birthplan pretty much went out the window - but, the one thing that I kept trying to tell myself was that I was in the best place, and whilst it was hard in the days prior, at the end of the day I know I was in the best place with the best possible people there to help look after me, and helping Blair into the world. It was so long ago that I did any study of pregnancy and birth (around 10 years ago) so don't feel like my nursing is helping at all, it will do once I have a baby (and kind of during birth but as a nurse is way different to as a mummy!) but as for the lead in to birth nope!

I have to hope they don't go backwards in the night, no hot shower for me tonight in case it does that, here I was thinking they should get pretty full on and yet I am normal not to be in agony yet! Am sure it can't be me crying wolf since they have regularity. Time for bed very soon to get some rest in case I need it tomorrow!

Imagine if I went to full term, they guestimated she would have been 11lbs!! Gutted to have to have a c section, but there was no way she was able to come naturally with brow presentation and being posterior. Nothing I could change, thats just the way nature goes! All in all I found labour such an empowering and the most amazing experience of my life and would go through it all again in a flash!!

Hope to catch up on all the goss sometime this week!

I figure its the easiet way of walking, atleast it gives you something to look at!

My BP was about 140/90 yesterday. Same thing, MW not too worried because I have no other signs of anything being wrong. She was only worried yesterday when I had that terrible pain in my side as it was right were my liver is, but my liver wasn't sore to touch. And the pain has gone now anyway. She said they would only put me on rest, which you do better at home in your own comfy bed anyway!!

Oh Bel I was thinking you must be having that baby too. Can't be long now though!!

I wish we had a decent shopping mall (ours is a plaza by Auckland standards) for me to window shop around, I want to be upright as much as I can so all this squeezing progresses and pushes baby down!

Maybe if I wish for more pain like Manz did it'll happen haha!

I spent a night in hospital with blood pressure, but worst part was that it wasn't even high anymore... They don't seem to know what to do with me - it goes up and down quite happily, but I have no other symptoms of pre-ecclampsia... so basically I got sent home, but if it goes high again (monday before I get checked again) then I will be back in there I guess...

So quiet weekend on the books here. No signs of going in to labour so far - which is a bugger, cos I don't really want to be induced, which is probably what they will do on MOnday if BP is high again.
