Author: mum2paris
Subject: 4996
Posted: 28 December 2006 at 9:07pm

We don't use wipes at all unless we are out and stuck without flannels.. we get the little soft stretchy ones from t&t and the nice soft cheapies baby flannels from warehouse. and use those.

For me with the maternity pads.. I found i went down to supers after maybe 2 weeks, but always get very heavy AF anyway, so kinda expected it.. did not expect to have to keep buying more for close to 7 weeks!.. so bought more 2nd time around, didn't use them quite as long but still found them handy for once Af came back. With both girls that was around 5 months.. anyway now you can get the superthin libra maternity ones and i liked them.

Breast pads.. would sometimes go through a pair in one feed and one in between if the girls slept too long cos i'd let down or leak and couldn't stop it. but ok if they woke frequently and i didn't overfill - usually about a box a week under usual cirumstances.. i used them till weaning at 6 months with Paris.. although by then it was mainly at feed times. Ayja i think it used them up till she stopped feeding during the day and only fed at night... maybe about 12 months. Some people need heaps others don't.. I can remember some others talking about how they'd wrap towels around themselves at night to stop the leakage. Johnsons ones are better than treasures.. treasures are more discreet, but johnsons hold much more and i didn't have trouble with leakage or sticking to you like the treasures ones did. Pidgeon ones are ok..nice that they have things to stick to the inside of your bra.. except your boobs don't always stay put and the pads won't move with them, they stick with the bra instead. i guess each to their own.

Edited by mum2paris

Also didn't use any baby wash in bath till bout 3mths (eczema in family) used 5ml pinetarsol, bout same of apricot oil, 1 or 2 drops of lavender oil (essential oil) and either aqueos cream or lemnis fatty cream from Dr prescription. Yes made baby slippery but it was better that than dry itchy skin. You may also want to start getting an extra washing powder or two when you see it on special (I use persil extra sensitive on the kids clothes) havent tried ecostore yet.

Just start buying the next size up and as you know you are having a boy you can buy Huggies in the next sizes up. I have 20 bags of Infant size nappies (a few different brands) and am now going up to the next size (crawler) and will contine to buy them until I have the same amount as the Infant size and then if i'm still pregnant start with the next size up. I figure that they don't go off and I will use them as a baby stays in the bigger sizes longer. I've stopped buying wipes (for now, will start again after I know which one is best for him) but still buying the odd bottle of JandJ top to toe and bed time bath as Andrew uses it as well and when my maternity leave stops we really don't want to have to buy heaps of stuff. Also I plan on getting a full time job in Septemberish so with the baby being in fulltime daycare I know they go through a number of nappies there.

Not as gushy as I thought I'd be

I think we're onto our third big bottle of general wash (I don't use it every bath-time), and third for shampoo as well (since my kids aren't born with a lot of hair so I don't introduce shampoo until close to their first birthday).

I don't need breast pads until after my milk came in and then for about three months I think.... but some women start leaking early and some women leak the whole way thru weaning. You might want to get 2-3 boxes to start with, that will last you a week or two and you can decide then whether you like that brand and whether you need more.

BTW... the adhesive breast pads are by far the BEST! Pigeon are more expensive but so much easier to use and they last longer too.

The other thing to consider is whether you want to change to washable breast pads/pads/nappies as that will change how many you need.
