Our carseat has a tether strap but said in the instructions to not tie it down in some circumstances, eg if more dangerous that way. Or sometimes there is absolutely nothing.

So check if she has a full on carseat or is still using a capsule... with a capsule you don't need a tether strap.

I must admit to giving up on the tether strap on short journeys when there was no anchor point.

Have you looked on the floor in the boot? Sometimes that's where they are in hatches. Sorry if this has been discussed somewhere else already!

I am picking up a friend from the airport in a week's time. She has a 6 month old baby, and is bringing her own car seat.

The trouble is, I have a hatchback car and I can't spot anything that looks like an anchor point.
